“a great hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

The customer service here is fantastic, The rooms were enormous, clean, comfortable and well equipped. The location is an added plus, walk-able to the harbor and close to various restaurants
We also had the
benefit of doing laundry and free wifi.

Love welcome at this hotel. It's nice to be address as 'lord and lady'. Quite funny.
The breakfast is super pricey but SO worth it!!! Absolutely delicious and a vast choice, smoothies, pastries, hot choices, fruit, fresh juices, cereals... yum. The rooms were lovely too and quite affordable, particularly the double apartment which is really great when on holidays.

Room Tip: We choose a two room apartment which was ideal for my parents and me and my husband. Lovely kitchen...

The hotel is in a great location, a good 10 minute walk from the V & A waterfront.

We are 3 nights into a 4 nite stay and are very much enjoying our stay. We are traveling with a 7 and 9 year old and are loving the 2 bedroom suite, though would agree with a previous reviewer that the lounge room furniture is not that comfortable. Lovely decor and a good standard of cleanliness.

Our check-in staff member was not hugely friendly, but every single other staff member has been enormously friendly and helpful. We have enjoyed our a la carte breakfasts each morning and have had no delays or hiccups.

We visited the Skybar last night and the views are amazing. We were a little surprised though that the waiter quickly advised us that half the cocktails were unavailable as we're 2 out of the 3 Merlots on the wine list and most of the soft drink. How hard is it for a bar to stock drinks! We still had a nice time having a drink there though.

The only other strange thing was that each day we have almost been harassed about having dinner in the restaurant. I can appreciate the staffs up selling skills but it really going into the hard sell area when each day you are repeatedly asked and called Bout where you are having dinner. The whole point in being on holiday is to have a variety of experiences, not just eat in the hotel restaurant every nite.

All in all though, a fabulous stay in a great hotel and we would highly recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Pillows very soft, request harder pillows from housekeeping

Dear Royal Guest,

Thank you for this very positive feedback and also for the constructive comments you have provided. Please be assured we will remedy the friendliness comment you have made about reception as this is not the standard we aim to provide and I can assure you that we will also remedy the drinks issue at the sky bar, this is completely unacceptable.

Once agin many thanks for this great feedback.

Royal Regards

My four year old nephew from Houston, TX said that his favorite part of South Africa was the greeting he had upon entering Cape Royale! They were extremely sweet to us and gave the little ones swords and crowns to truly feel royal. The staff was particularly helpful with anything we needed. We LOVE James who welcomed us with the greatest smile each time we returned "home". Joshua in the restaurant is our other favorite; kind, courteous, and a joy to have around.

First off the hotel reception, location and staff are lovely. Nearly Everyone we met was really nice. Our experience wasn't the best as my wife and I were on our honeymoon and we said we were when booking the hotel and also when we arrived into the hotel, but when we arrived to our room, they had given us a room with 2 single beds!!!! I called reception straight away and instead of just giving us another room, they sent up house keeping to put a fitted sheet on top of the two single beds to 'turn it into a double' while we waited in the room. Annoyed with this, I went down to reception and the guy was no help at all and a bit condescending to be honest. The room itself was fine but not really a place for a romantic trip and more set up for families imo. There is a kitchen in the suite but some of the cutlery in our one was not cleaned so we didn't make use of it. House keeping also seem to come up every 2 hours to check if everything is ok which was strange and got a bit annoying after a while. Overall our experience was only ok and I would say that while the hotel has its good points, it's not a place for a romantic get away.

Dear Royal Guest,

Thank you for your email. I am sorry to learn that you did not have a wonderful stay with us especially during your honeymoon.
We have honeymooners stay with us almost every day of the week and the issues you have noted are certainly not the norm. My sincere apologies for the shortfalls noted. I will ensure a full investigation is conducted immediately.

Once again my sincere apologies.

The greeting we received was by gong and we were addressed as "lord" and "lady". Our daughter liked this but it was a little strange for us. The apartment we had was huge but somewhat sparsely furnished in the living areas also windows from kitchen and one bedroom onto the hallway gave feeling of a lack of privacy. Living room furniture uncomfortable. Bathrooms and bedrooms well furnished and comfortable. Breakfast was cooked to order but the restaurant was too small to accommodate the large groups staying in the hotel and this led to delays in the morning. Mistakes made in breakfast orders two of four days. Room had a kitchen with washer/dryer which didn't work properly and after three visits from hotel staff to repair they agreed to complete the load for us in hotel equipment. Coffee maker also did not work properly. Maid service slow and we interrupted them when we came back to room at five one afternoon and they never finished cleaning the room so trash was overflowing and towels weren't replaced. Location was good near V&A waterfront and the staff tried very hard to please. Roof top pool and bar we discovered on last night had amazing views.
