“Garden B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2011

I liked the garden most of all, it was sunny and sheltered from the wind. The rooms were also nicely done, the beds comfortable, the showers powerful and the breakfast plentiful. Karen was really helpful so always speak to her if you need to plan your day. It's a short walk to the main beach and promenade in Camps Bay.

Room Tip: We had the Morocco twin room which lead directly onto the garden.

We stayed here on the last leg of our Honeymoon and the place was a great find. Carefully designed rooms with a lot of character and an ideal location in the beautiful Camps Bay which will not break the bank. The personal help & advice from Rolf was superb, and we can't thank him enough for helping to make our trip so special.

What a beautiful guest house, perfect location, gorgeous rooms, amazing decor and not to mention the wonderfully intimate and personal service from dear Rolf, who was always on hand to recommend restaurants, sight seeing, taking messages for us when we were not sure if our shark dive was going ahead and leaving us a quirky little message on our door to confirm that it was, he even stood in the garden for what seemed like hrs at a time to check when the cable car to table mountain was running again as the wind had stopped it for a few days. To top it all off, even though we paid for the cheapest room, as it was free during our stay, he moved us to the King Suite for the last 2 nights of our stay. Rolf gave us a tour of all the rooms, they really are remarkable and comfortable is not the word. I would recommend this little gem to anyone and everyone, it doesn't get much better than this!!

Room Tip: They're all beautiful!

We stayed in the beach room for 3 nights and found Villa Surprise to be in a perfect location, Camps bay promenade is less than 5mins walk. The beach room was a great size with its own huge balcony which was great for watching the sunsets! Bathroom had a lovely roll top bath and both it and the room were very clean. I had been worried from pictures on the website that the curtains in the room would be very light and let the sun in in the morning but in fact this was not the case and I slept so well. My only negative point is the breakfasts, cooked breakfasts (apart from eggs) were not included in the price but even if you wanted a hot breakfast nobody was there to take your order until you were pretty much about to leave the table. Not a huge point but just something that we didn't like. But overall we really enjoyed our stay at Villa Surprise, Rolf and Marko were very friendly and it was a beautifully decorated house.
ps if you do stay in camps bay you must eat at the codfather, yummy!

We stayed at Villa Surprise, Camps Bay as part of our honeymoon. It's a pleasant enough place and our room was enormous, leading on to a balcony with views. The rooms are styled in a quirky 'boho chic' way. We were in the 'King' suite and there were crown motifs everywhere and plastic crowns in the bathroom, plus a psuedo four poster bed. It wasn't to our taste and it may not to be everyone's style but the place as a whole is very good. The staff are helpful, breakfasts are large, continental and very good and the beach is a ten minute walk.

It may not be the best place we stayed in South Africa it's a very good choice if you want to stay reasonably in Camp's Bay.

Just got back from our second visit to Villa Surprise and are glad to say that it is still a great place to stay!

We had a split stay with 8 nights in the Africa Room over Christmas and then another 2 nights (after a 4 night mini tour down the coast) in the Morocco (cum new Africa) Room for New Year. The Africa room is still as comfortable as before (see previous review) and had a small make over since our last stay with the addition of a wall mounted flat screen TV and a large walk in shower replacing the bath - very nice touch!

The Morocco Room has also begun to be changed into a 2nd Africa room but with the Moroccan influence being maintained in the very spacious bathroom. The point of entry for this room was from the garden (which we were originally concerned about) but this was great for access to sunbathing by the pool. Again, a comfy lounge area, free safe, fridge, flat screen TV and comfortable beds made this a lovely room to stay in.

Rolf had built a new Cabana style shaded patio which was a lovely place to avoid the hot midday sunshine and the pool area was great to catch the sun and relax under the new large umbrella in the hammock when desired.

Marko, Rolf, Janet and the staff all made this another wonderful stay with lovely gestures over Xmas and New Year adding that extra touch (New Years Eve drinks were fabulous - many thanks)! We were made to feel so welcome and part of the family!! Breakfasts were as good as we remembered and they kindly looked after our extra baggage while we scooted off for 4 days exploring between our stays. The mini bar was well stocked and the laundry service was very quick and reasonably priced.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough and I hope to return again in the future. Thanks guys!!

My boyfriend and I have just got back from two weeks in Cape town and the western cape. We spent the first 10 days at Villa Surprise in Camps Bay as I'd read good reviews about this as a base.

Villa surprise was easy enough to find from the airport - we took the scenic route as we came off the N2 at wrong spot but still arrived in under 30 mins. The room (the Africa room) was lovely and spacious with a nice bathroom. It comes with a fan which was more than adequate for cooling the room. Marko showed us about and we felt instantly at home. There is off street parking, the property felt secure, there is a lovely area outside for breakfast and afternoons by the pool if its too hot on the beach.

The villa is about a 5 min walk from the beach and many restaurants in Camps Bay (10 mins on way back as uphill!). Camps Bay was a great place to stay, 10 mins drive to Cape Town and the N2 and N1 for other destinations, 5 mins to the Table mountain cable way, is practically on the coast road which is spectacular - recommend stopping at the twelve apostles hotel for a drink in the bar to watch the sunset. It is also a short drive from the quieter resort of Clifton whose 4 beaches are worth a visit.

The breakfasts were good, cooked breakfasts were a bit extra but no trouble if you wanted them, we also got our laundry done there which was returned same day, folded and ironed and shirts hung in wardrobe.

What really stood out was the constant helpfulness of the hosts Marko and Rolf. They were always happy to recommend/organise tours, suggest which vineyards to visit, which roads to use and even provided beach towels, umbrellas and a bat and ball set for us to use. When you are trying to fit a lot in to a short space of time this kind of local insight was fantastic.

I would absolutely stay here again if i get to visit again and would recommend it. I felt instantly relaxed staying here and had a great time.
