“Our stay at Balfour Place Guesthouse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

A fantastic place, magnificent view. Very good breakfast and service. The rooms were very spacious and had a lovely sea view. This guest house is in a excellent location. If there is only one small negative, its the amount of steps to the rooms. Can be hard work for the older generation. Will for sure stay here again.

I have just spent four nights at Balfour Place with two of my sons, one of whom has a partner. We had three rooms and they were all very spacious, extremely comfortable, huge beds, big bathrooms. There are 5 bedrooms in total, all facing the sea and are on two floors (three on first floor, two on second floor) with a terrace on each floor, running the width of the building, so all rooms have outside access and views (sunset included!). The views are indeed wonderful, especially from the two rooms on the second floor. Balfour Place is at the end of a cul du sac, so very quiet. Easy to park. The swimming pool is adequate, the sun beds comfortable with some shade offered by a huge parasol pine. The ground floor has a large kitchen (for breakfasts) and the living area is huge. Only slight inconvenience is that the wifi does not reach the second floor. What we loved most about staying there was the atmosphere of being in your own home, very relaxed, of being able to put something to drink in the fridge, flopping down on the big sofas in the living room or wandering out by the pool. Sheila welcomes you for breakfast with a huge smile - lovely fresh fruit, all sorts of buns, ham, cheese, and the rest ..... And she seems so happy to make the guests happy!! Janet comes into the office each morning to organise everything and she is extremely helpful and can give you lots of tips about where to eat, where to go, etc. You walk down some steps beside the house and in a few minutes you are by the sea and the many many bars and restaurants of Camps Bay. We particularly liked a restaurant called 'Blue' (upstairs). We left Cape Town to stay in the wine area - in a large hotel with tons of service, but which we did not enjoy half as much as our stay at Balfour Place. As some else has reviewed: 'a gem of a place' and we feel very lucky to have found it. Extremely good value as well. Hurray for Balfour Place, Janet and Sheila. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay in Cape Town!

I stayed here for 4 nights with my mum and we really loved this place. Its a big house with 5 guest rooms and a big lounge, kitchen area and outside terrace downstairs. All the rooms have an amazing view of Camps Bay and the mountains. The two smaller rooms are very cozy but if you like a bit of space def go for the deluxe rooms. We had room nr 3. Its a very big room and even with twin beds it gives you enough space to move around. Also lots of closet space and a very nice and big bathroom (check pictures on the hotel's website of all the rooms). The best views are from the rooms on the top floor (room 4 and 5). Most of the time the house is very quiet and it feels like you have the place to yourselves. The breakfast is simple but has a good collection of fruits and pastries. The pool is small like in almost every hotel in Cape Town but perfect for a cool-off dip. The terrace has sun almost the whole day and there is a big tree if you prefer to be in the shade. The walk down to the boulevard is about 5 min and the place feels very safe, also in the evening.
We will def be staying here again on our next trip to Cape Town.

Just back from a magnificent stay at Balfour Place. Janet who runs the guest house does a great job and organised airport transfer before I left. When I arrived I stayed in room 5 a beautifully decorated spacious room on the third floor with breathtaking views over Camps Bay,
The guest house is in an excellent location and only a short stroll to the beach and Camps Bay shops and restaurants.
The Breakfast was really delicious and no complaints there. I would definitely recommend Balfour Place for a romantic stay in Capetown as it ticks all the boxes

We spent an awesome few days in Cape Town and the Balfour Place guesthouse was perfectly positioned to take in all the sights and sounds that Cape Town has to offer. Balfour is situated just above the beach, with great views and very close to a number of top end restaurants and a few convenience stores. The accommodation was very comfortable and clean. Janet and staff do an excellent job in welcoming you and ensuring you have an enjoyable stay. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Wow, just left camps bay and Balfour Place. Before we even arrived Janet had arranged our transfers from the airport by email. Camps bay is definitely worth a visit and Balfour is literally a minute walk from the promenade and beach front. Parking available outside or if walking then easy to cut through on a path on corner of Geneva and Camps Bay Dr. Restaurants are two minutes walk. We had a problem with a patio door in our room and were immediately moved up to a deluxe room! Definitely worth the extra money if you have the budget. Views were stunning of the bay from top floor and room 5 (honeymoon suite) is incredible! Swimming pool outside, kitchen where breakfast is served (continental style) by Sheila (the amazing house lady who is so friendly). Would highly recommend to any friends visiting Cape Town

As part of our honeymoon, we spent three nights at Balfour. Beautifully decorated and furnished property in a really excellent location in Camps Bay. It's situation at the end of a cul-de-sac, and so is wonderfully quiet, but there is a pedestrian pathway at the end of the cul-de-sac that means you are only 5 mins from the beach and the main strip. The room we had was, like the rest of the house, beautifully furnished and very stylish. The breakfasts every morning were big and very good. Sheila, the housekeeper, was on-hand and very helpful, and Janet, the owner, was always in and around the property to field any specific questions on restaurants, onward travel plans etc. Janet and her husband, as well as Shelia, were all extremely charming and welcoming. The only other thing to say is that the views are amazing, as are the sunsets. We tried to book back in for our final three nights in Cape Town before flying back to London, but they were full.
