“A hidden Oasis in Camps bay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

Me and my friend had a wonderful two-week-stay at camps bay glen. It was a perfect start on our 6 months of exchange studies here in cape town! The location is perfect, only a 10min walk to the beach, and 15min to the city center of Cape Town by car.
The staff was really nice, Isaak the gardener was really warm and friendly and Bulelwa the housekeeper did a superb job in keeping the house neat and tidy every weekday (she really folded the clothes we left lying around, and if we didn't have time to do the dishes, she did them for us.) Mark, the owner, is a really cool person with a lot of interesting things to tell about Cape town and what to do here, and about life in general!

It is possible to contact him at their web site and to book from there:
www.campsbayglen.co.za

Camps bay glen is a perfect place to live while you're spending wonderful days in cape town if your looking for a relaxing place. Chill in the hammocks and swim in the pool after a day of adventure, while you're enjoying the sun set - it can't be better than that!

Enjoy!

While visiting Cape Town for my daughter's graduation from UCT in June, we stayed at Campsbayglen for three nights. We stayed in Studio A. It was perfect for the 3 of us. We entertained friends for dinner each night as we did not want to leave this amazing place. The deck was so spacious and the view of the sunsets over the ocean was spectacular. It was cool at night so we enjoyed our dinner inside in the spacious dining area along with a roaring fire in the fireplace. We had some initial issues with cable as the guys wanted to watch soccer. Mark came over and took care of the problem himself. We have stayed at other places in Camps Bay, but found Campsbayglen to have so much more character with amazing views. We will definitely be back in the summer so that we can enjoy the pool area.

We're a group of Singaporean friends who visited Cape Town on a budget in May, and if we return or if we have friends visiting, we'll definitely recommend Camps Bay Glen!

Value for money: We stayed in Studio A, the main house. It had 2 bedrooms each with a queen-sized bed. If there were more than 4 people in the studio, then they would bring in more single beds, and convert the sofa into a sofa bed. That would accommodate up to 7 people, or even 8 because there's another sofa that someone can sleep on. That was just for about R1000 per night, for the whole studio! So with the 6 of us snuggling comfortably in studio A, it cost just about S$25 per night per person.

Facilities: we didn't have much time to try out the pool and the pool-side hammocks, mainly because our stay was quite short. It was also winter and we weren't in the mood to jump into cold water at night. However, had we visited in summer, we would definitely have taken time to check out the pool and braai equipment.

Furnishings: we found the studio to be extremely homely. There were pots and pans, dishes and utensils that allowed us to prepare our own breakfast in the morning, and enjoy some late night suppers. We made full use of the stove, toaster and new sandwich maker that Mark just bought when we got there. The wifi was also well-utilized. The sofas and beds were comfortable, and the toilet was beautiful. Mark also took a lot of pictures and printed them out on canvas-like frames and hung them around the walls. They're really beautiful and well-taken, and shows the passion that Mark puts into his work.
The only qualms we had were that the sofa bed springs were getting spoilt, and the middle sank in when you were trying to sleep. The kitchen had no cloths to wipe up any water, so the tables and floor got wet quite easily.

Security: Mark did a superb job making us feel well and safe at home. The gates and doors all have locks, and there are emergency remote controls he places around the house, just in case. He had 2 safes in the house, and they are very sturdy and well, safe.

Services: Mark is very passionate about his job, and it was great that he kept trying his best to help us plan our own vacation via email. Bulelwa the housekeeper did a superb job in keeping the house neat and tidy every weekday (she really folded the clothes we left lying around, and if we didn't have time to do the dishes, she did them for us), though sadly we didn't get to see her much.

We were thoroughly fascinated by Camps Bay Glen and how we could find such cheap but homely accommodation in Cape Town. If you aren't travelling in a large group, check out Camps Bay Glen! You won't regret it.

It never showed up for some reason :( So many wonderful things to say about this place...

I can start by telling you that in my last review I went on and on and on about how much my boyfriend and I enjoyed our nearly 3 week stay at CampsBayGlen-- Mark and Bluewa & crew were incredibly accommodating and hospitable and the accommodation itself was like staying in a cozy, comfy cottage with all the familiarities of home. I spent a LOT of time relaxing and watching the birds in the hammock on our private balcony (there are 2 others as well at the pool, but it was winter while I visited). They allowed us essentially free reign over the laundry facilities (THANK YOU!) which is pretty unheard of in comparison to most other places. Mark even agreed to allow my boyfriend and I to use the AMAZINGLY ROMANTIC outdoor patio bathtub one evening that we were the only renters-- a very generous offer on his behalf and it made the evening magical!

The view and location are fantastic, not to mention the PRICE! With the rate being per DAY instead of per person along with a discount for the duration and off-season rate, it was more than affordable to stay here and I would definitely return to CampsBayGlen on my next trip to Camps Bay :) Thanks Mark! See you again soon!

Room Tip: They're all great! If you want a private hammock, go with the Studio C :)

For our large family group of 9 people we rented the whole place which worked really well for us as it had a large well equipped open plan kitchen in the main section and common living area for being all together as well as lots of attractive and secluded spots for finding some quiet escapes! I loved being able to just relax on the big deck with the hammocks and beautiful ocean & bushland views. The kids had great fun in the pool. It was a good central spot for then heading into the city, up the mountain, out to Cape Point and the wine areas. The stairs down to the pool were a bit of a challenge for our 80yr old grandmother, but apart from that it worked really well for us, especially with separate areas where teenage children can have their own space. We felt very safe & secure.

We stayed in Studio B - Lisa for 6 nights. It was poorly equipped with home-made furniture and a maze of electrical wires - see photo. Anyone who gives a 5-point rating (and there are many), lives on another planet. The studio was scruffy rather than dirty. The shower room had tiles overpainted in brown and white paint! The garden furniture seems to have been cobbled together with driftwood. The barbecue facilities were terrible - in the land of the braii! - they could not be made to function properly. Bearing in mind the appallingly difficult and dangerous steps to our studio, with no handrail, the obligatory signed waiver against any claims whatsoever should be considered very carefully. Whilst some people seemed entirely pleased with this mediocrity, I have never seen a visitors' book with so many adverse comments, none of which seem to have been acted upon. Clearly the proprietors do not care to address these issues. On the plus side the pool is great, the view to the sea is magic as is the garden itself. The feeling of a crazy, jungly garden is quite fun.

We stayed at Mark's place (Apartment A) 2 years in a row over New Year and what we like most is that you are very close to Campsbay's beach, restaurants, ... with all the buzz - but once you sit on the terasse at the glen, it feels like you are in the wilderness, with a beautiful view on the ocean!
Sure, you can't compare the rooms and the kitchen to the 5star hotels around, but the price is also not comparable ... ;-)
Keep up the good work, Mark!

Room Tip: Apartment A has the big terasse, which dominates the pictures :-)
