What a wonderful place to visit ! We loved our time there, the park itself and the setting for the accommodation are wonderful. However, we stayed there in August, and wouldn't want to be there in winter again. The cold wasn't the problem as such, as we knew what the climate would be.
The letdown was the accommodation and restaurant. We would be very happy indeed with all of it at any other time of year, but they are clearly not geared up for the winter. The chalet was very nice, but was designed for a location that is hot for most of the year. The first thing we did when we arrived was to go into town and buy an electric heater, just to make it bearable ~ the windows and doors are very rattly and draughty, and even hanging a blanket over the window behind the sofa wasn't enough to make us able to sit and watch the tv ! The one saving grace was that the shower in the bathroom was incredible. Lots of hot water, and very powerful.
The restaurant is nicely designed, and the food and service are fine, however it was so cold in there that the diners at breakfast and dinner were all wearing their outdoor coats etc, and doing everything they could to be within a few feet of the small fire that no chance of heating the space. We pre-booked our table for dinner on the Saturday evening to be sure we were close enough to the fire to be reasonably comfortable, and when we got there another couple had taken it. The waitresses were very apologetic and explained that the gentleman had simply refused to sit anywhere else, and to be honest I don't blame them for not standing up to him. But that does show just how cold it was !
At over R.1,000 per night we really don't expect to be having to cope with biting cold in the chalet and dining areas.
Having said all that, it is truly a great place to visit, and we will go back.
