Owner description: The Sun City Hotel is the hedonistic heart of the Sun City Resort. The ambience of the Casino is one of glamour and sophistication. From the moment you enter the foyer your senses are assaulted by the bold design aspects and dramatic setting. The central area of the casino has been magically transformed into a jungle of lush foliage, cascading water and life-like boulders, encircling fast moving slot machines.

“small entertainment casino”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

Limited games and not very friendly staff, clearly they do not know what service is all about. Need to expand the casino and have more updated games

“Sun city, the palace of pleasure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

This place has many attraction, including a beach and surf-able waves, water slides in the middle of a desert. Kids can have an amazing time due to the various games & thrills. There are golf courses, casinos etc. The adventure sports & frills are varied (segway tours, bungee, para sailing etc) . Dont forget to catch the elephant dance at 1 pm!

The place can be quite pricey, be prepared to spend > $1,000 on the adventures

“Sun city main pool”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Hi just like to make a note of our experience at Sun city we went for the day ,one thing what upset me and my partner the most was we went down to the pool at the cabana area ,for lunch the staff where very relaxed and un helpful we ordered a cagun chicken sandwich and behold was delivered in a plastic bag in a plastic container something you don't expect from a upmarket venue they did mention afterwards they don't serve food at the pool anymore ,....?....? What I can't understand why supply menus if food is not served at pool. Apart from that the overall experience was not bad

“Six days in a Fantasy world and a dream come true!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013 via mobile

Dream come true indeed! I had read about the Lost City and Sun City and all the attractions therein, and it was fantastic, albeit in the throes of a South African winter!
We were picked up at the airport and taken by bus to the resort. Almost 3 hours to get there but the drive was OK.

The weather was perfect during the day at 22-24 degrees Celsius and the drop at night was not too bad (9 degrees C). Be warned that baboons roam freely in the resort area but as long as one does not interfere with them, they pretty much leave you alone. If caught feeding them one is fined pretty heavily! So forewarned is forearmed.
Sun City Hotel itself was a lovely hotel, but not recommended if one has small kids as the Casino is in the lobby area, and it could get noisy at times. I loved it though I am no gambler!
The hotel general areas and rooms are Smoke-free as are the restaurants and there is a "smoking" Casino separated from the main one where stakes seemed a little higher than the non-smoking lobby area.
The room we had was on the 6th Floor overlooking the garden terrace and pool area to the left, twin beds pushed together, a writing desk and 2 chairs, with paying internet service only. No wifi available although I picked up some unsecured IP's that I would not recommend using. Beds very comfy. TV rather small for the size of the furniture - actually the size of a computer monitor of 23 inches! Cable tV was pretty good for the short time I spent in the room as so much going on outside in the resort.
One just has to walk to the Welcome Centre and Entertainment Centre for fast food court and movie theatre, as well as a few shops and pharmacy in the arcade. Kids games abound in that area.
We went on the Game Drive on our first morning, into the Pilanesburg National Park and had a splendid 3 hours watching the animals in their natural habitat. We got to see a pride of lions, 2 herds of elephants, giraffes, Zebras, kudu, wildebeasts, warthogs, hippos and rhinos. Unfortunately we didn't see any buffalo or Leopards but we had fabulous shots of the ones mentioned. Go with a great camera and zoom lens. A must if you go.
The next night we were entertained at a Shabeen, which is a typical SA bar and we were served a typical SA meal buffet style. It was excellent and the fires were blazing in all corners and drums were beating. A true South African experience. We tasted a drink made at the Shabeen called Moemper toffee which I have to say was divine - meant to warm you up as it was rather chilly. Really yummy and a must try.
The days were warm enough to go over to the Valley of the Waves at the Lost City which is an artificial beach and water park area. 5 Fantastic slides, alazy river, a huge Royal pool with a fabulous bar, and of course the Wave pool where one can body surf all day long. Literally looks like one has walked into a tropical paradise, except the water is not the sea! I was in heaven.
Then we experienced the Bridge, which shakes as though in an earthquake, every hour on the hour up to 9pm, with sounds of animals, drums, and lights and smoke. Pretty amazing at night.the animal carvings in the rock face and the statues of the black elephants gurding the bridge are just thrilling. One has to cross the bridge to get to the Valley of the waves.
The Lost City is the Grand Duchess of the Resort where we went to visit and take photos but sadly we were not allowed into the hotel itself although we were residing in the resort at the Sun City hotel. I thought that was snobbish and outdated. Sad but true.
The golf course there was one that is to be envied by all! The greens were immaculate and sprawling. All 18 holes - unbelievable and too fab to describe here. You have to experience it to know it.
The Gary Player Club and golf course was another wonderful place to spend time. There is a well equipped gym for 80 Rand per day (unlimited use for the day) and a spa to be pampered with a wide choice of treatments with different costs. Also Hair and nails!
In a word - Heaven comes to mind, except one needs to have money. A good credit card advisable LOL! Enjoy!
There is so much more I have not described like the "nature" walks to the Lost City from the Valley of the waves but I think this review is enough for those interested in taking a trip to SA to experience this.

“Paradise in the bush”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

It is always amazing to visit Sun City. En route you travel through rural areas and bushveld, only to arrive at a world-class resort in the middle of nowhere. There is an abundance of activities to participate in and the service and facilities are excellent. Any of the 4 hotels at the resort are worth visiting.
