“We had a wonderful time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2010

When we told our South African friends we were staying in Rustenburg, they all turned up their noses and said it was an industrial town and we wouldn't see the best of South Africa. Admittedly the town itself isn't the most picturesque of places but just outside it the Kedar centre is very attractive. The accommodation and setting are great and we really enjoyed the food at the hotel's restaurant. Chef William introduced himself and served us the best steak we had all holiday (we went on to Cape Town and dined in some very upmarket restaurants so this is some compliment). We had treatments at the Spa and were very impressed with everything there. In conclusion, I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would go back myself at the first opportunity.

Came here with two friends and our husbands for the ist leg of our South African holiday. We were a bit apprehensive at first because we were told by South African friends that Rustenburg is not a very nice location. Once pass security Kedar is like being in another world, Our accommodation was individual thatched huts in what appeared like a small rainforest, everything was spotlessly clean although needed some more light in the rooms. We enjoyed some lovely meals in the restaurant and the bar, both being very reasonably priced. Staff very very helpful and friendly. Would definitely reccommend this hotel to anybody staying in this area (felt totally safe), you won't be disappointed. Very well placed for the Pilanesburg Reserve and Sun City. Spa centre was also very good.

We stayed with my boyfriends parents at Kedar (they live in Jo'burg) and they had booked the hotel for us. There were apparently several mix ups on the booking which meant there was an awkward situation at reception when we booked in. The hotel itself was fine, the room was okay for the price but the nicest bit was the outside shower and little area outside the front door where you could sit of an evening. The dinner in the hotel (we only ate there one night) was overpriced for what it was. The themed restaurant was a bit odd and no real atmosphere, and the food was not what i would expect for the price you pay, pretty poor in fact - i think around 170 rand. All in all, a lot cheaper than staying in Sun City but not the best SA has to offer.

Good location if you want to be near to Sun City, and about 20 minutes north of Rustenburg. The thatched rooms are nice, grounds are tranquil and well kept, with a feeling of individuality as rooms are surrounded by gardens.

Service all seemed first class.

Dinner, South African style buffet. Lots of hot and cold choices, all good.
Nice bar area to get a cold beer.

Noise was the one thing that I found - croaking toads in the pond outside my room at night (room 202). It rained in the night - and on the thatch, you can hear it. Great sound, but can keep you awake.
Woken early in the morning by rumbling - from across an exterior wall at the back of the room (not sure what - empty trucks rumbling past?)
Otherwise, nice place.

We spent two nights at the Kedar and wished we had stayed longer!! We enjoyed the African-themed resort as we felt like we had finally arrived in South Africa when we drove in. Our super deluxe room was nicely decorated and was comfortable. We loved the outdoor shower and were glad we spent the extra money for the upgrade. The breakfast buffet was delicious; the staff were very friendly and helpful; and we thoroughly enjoyed the safari and tour of the Kruger Museum led by Nikki. The grounds at the Kedar are well-maintained, parking is under a mesh-covered stall, and the best thing is that we felt very safe at the Kedar. We highly recommend this resort to anyone who wants to stay at a nice resort at a very reasonable cost within easy driving distance of Sun City or Pilansburg.
