“A dream come true...”

Tshukudu Bush Lodge

Sep 26, 2008

Where can I begin - the whole experience was amazing! You might see more wildlife at places like Kruger, but this is a more intimate and special safari experience. Our wonderful guide, Zander, took us on eight hours worth of game drives daily all over beautiful Pilanesberg park, and was a real talent at spotting any and all wildlife in the area (from elephants, lions, zebras, warthogs, hippos to birds, spiders and snakes) and narrating many interesting facts about the flora and fauna around us. The lodge itself was very comfortable with all the conveniences, but felt a million miles away from the hustle & bustle of city life. The staff members were warm & friendly and really took care of all of your needs. The food and wine were excellent. This is by far the best lodge in Pilanesberg - and probably one of the highlights of my travels - I highly recommend it and hope I can go back again in future!

“Fantastic!!!”

We had a wonderful stay in Tshukudu. We were there for 3 nights in the end of July. The game drives were terrific - saw the Big 5 and much, much more. Shawn, the game guide (and the manager of the place) was terrific, the food fabulous, and the environment was peaceful. The weather was quite pleasant during the day, but once the sun went down (or before it came up) it was COLD. Lots of layers were needed, but there was a fire waiting for us in the cottage when we got back from the drives. They do quite a bit of pampering here, and everyone goes out of their way to be gracious and solicitous. We loved every minute and would go back in a heartbeat!

“Still magical!”

Tshukudu Bush Lodge

Mar 3, 2008

There are few superlatives that I can add to the glowing reviews previously posted. This was my second visit to Tshukudu and this time every bit as memorable. Of course it's expensive but when you consider what is included it's also good value for money. We stayed only one night...............stretch to two nights if you can to make the most of the sunken baths overlooking the watering hole...........we were also very lucky with our co-guests, all lovely, which made for a great atmosphere.

“Truly Special Lodge”

Tshukudu is a sensational lodge - the only lodge in the stunning Pilanesberg, with 6 comfortable cottages, great views and delicious food. The beds are very comfortable and the view over the plain from the room is very relaxing. Lovely bathroom also.

The staff are super friendly and there is a club-like atmosphere to the lodge - you sit together for breakfast and dinner and that combined with only 2 vehicles on game drives at any point means you get to know everyone. The dinners are a real occasion, with everyone, including game guides, seated at one table for 4-5 delicious courses with complimentary wines. A proper dinner and really very entertaining.

The park is stunningly beautiful and the game is excellent, especially if you want to see rhino, which are everywhere - never seen so many, most impressive. Plenty of elephant, lion, giraffe and hippo etc as well, and great birding also. Didn't see leopard but they do have them. The only slight downer is that its a public park, so you could be watching elephants when a white BMW and a red VW will stop next to you, a little offputting if you're used to the private parks of East Africa and Botswana - so during the late morning and early evening there was the odd congregation of vehicles around a lion. However, the park is big enough to avoid them.

Howard was our guide who spotted lots and had a great sense of humour - he also tried to stay away from other vehicles to give you more unspoilt and private encounters. His sundowner spot overlooking the park was fantastic, and we had a thrilling elephant encounter one evening in the dark.

We spent 2 nights here and enjoyed every moment - we look forward to coming back as soon as we can!
