“Still magical!”

Tshukudu Bush Lodge

Mar 3, 2008

There are few superlatives that I can add to the glowing reviews previously posted. This was my second visit to Tshukudu and this time every bit as memorable. Of course it's expensive but when you consider what is included it's also good value for money. We stayed only one night...............stretch to two nights if you can to make the most of the sunken baths overlooking the watering hole...........we were also very lucky with our co-guests, all lovely, which made for a great atmosphere.

Tshukudu is a sensational lodge - the only lodge in the stunning Pilanesberg, with 6 comfortable cottages, great views and delicious food. The beds are very comfortable and the view over the plain from the room is very relaxing. Lovely bathroom also.

The staff are super friendly and there is a club-like atmosphere to the lodge - you sit together for breakfast and dinner and that combined with only 2 vehicles on game drives at any point means you get to know everyone. The dinners are a real occasion, with everyone, including game guides, seated at one table for 4-5 delicious courses with complimentary wines. A proper dinner and really very entertaining.

The park is stunningly beautiful and the game is excellent, especially if you want to see rhino, which are everywhere - never seen so many, most impressive. Plenty of elephant, lion, giraffe and hippo etc as well, and great birding also. Didn't see leopard but they do have them. The only slight downer is that its a public park, so you could be watching elephants when a white BMW and a red VW will stop next to you, a little offputting if you're used to the private parks of East Africa and Botswana - so during the late morning and early evening there was the odd congregation of vehicles around a lion. However, the park is big enough to avoid them.

Howard was our guide who spotted lots and had a great sense of humour - he also tried to stay away from other vehicles to give you more unspoilt and private encounters. His sundowner spot overlooking the park was fantastic, and we had a thrilling elephant encounter one evening in the dark.

We spent 2 nights here and enjoyed every moment - we look forward to coming back as soon as we can!

“Tshukudu: A FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE!!”

My stay at Tshukudu was really a great experience. I enjoyed every minute and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to see amazing wildlife and stay in an awesome accomodation.

Everything from the transportation to the lodge, the guided game drives with refreshment break, and fantastic dinners, to the 0520 "wake-up" for the morning game drive was very well organized; and all of the staff were so nice and accomodating.
I must mention Shawn and Doug, and say thanks again to both of you. They are very knowledgeable and experienced guides who absolutely go out of their way to make sure that your stay is comfortable and that you have every opportunity to get many awesome wildlife pictures on each game drive.
The cottage with the sunken bath and balcony was lovely and well maintained. The balcony was a great place to relax with a drink; and view several different species of wildlife crossing the veld to the watering hole.
I have no complaints, only FANTASTIC memories and recommend Tshukudu for an unforgettable South African experience.

“Heaven On Earth!!!!!!!”

Tshukudu Bush Lodge

Where do I start......just perfect! Staff are out of this world, location amazing, food divine, room stunning and the sunken bath (with candles provided) overlooking the plains breathtaking.

Game drives are wonderful and flexible to meet your requirements. Before the afternoon drive you choose what drink you want during the break. Gin and tonic (with lemon) is the only way to refresh yourself on safari! Nibbles provided to keep you going until the fabulous dinner. Morning game drives start after coffee and a flapjack or fruit and have a break where delicious muffins and coffee keep you going until brunch when you return.

We would advise staying more than 1 night to make the most of the peace and quiet to relax in during the day. Many guests do 1 night; arrive, game drive, dinner, sleep, game drive, brunch leave - but you miss sitting on the balcony and watching the animals coming to and going from the water hole outside.

Evening begin with drinks around the fire followed by an amazing 6 course dinner where the chef personally comes out to explain when he has chosen to cook for you. Try unusual dishes like ostrich and impala as it'll widen your experience.

There is nothing to improve at this venue! Tshukudu is the best place I have ever stayed at. You will not want to leave! Go there!!!!
