Tshukudu is a sensational lodge - the only lodge in the stunning Pilanesberg, with 6 comfortable cottages, great views and delicious food. The beds are very comfortable and the view over the plain from the room is very relaxing. Lovely bathroom also.
The staff are super friendly and there is a club-like atmosphere to the lodge - you sit together for breakfast and dinner and that combined with only 2 vehicles on game drives at any point means you get to know everyone. The dinners are a real occasion, with everyone, including game guides, seated at one table for 4-5 delicious courses with complimentary wines. A proper dinner and really very entertaining.
The park is stunningly beautiful and the game is excellent, especially if you want to see rhino, which are everywhere - never seen so many, most impressive. Plenty of elephant, lion, giraffe and hippo etc as well, and great birding also. Didn't see leopard but they do have them. The only slight downer is that its a public park, so you could be watching elephants when a white BMW and a red VW will stop next to you, a little offputting if you're used to the private parks of East Africa and Botswana - so during the late morning and early evening there was the odd congregation of vehicles around a lion. However, the park is big enough to avoid them.
Howard was our guide who spotted lots and had a great sense of humour - he also tried to stay away from other vehicles to give you more unspoilt and private encounters. His sundowner spot overlooking the park was fantastic, and we had a thrilling elephant encounter one evening in the dark.
We spent 2 nights here and enjoyed every moment - we look forward to coming back as soon as we can!
