“Intimate lodge, Crowded game viewing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

An intimate, stylish and great setting for a lodge. The central lounge area has a great view over an amphitheater of a games plain. The lodge lacks the special edge that many of the other top end lodges near the Kruger have. The food is good but the dining area is a fairly small dining room where all guests sit at a long table. The weather was pretty cold so we couldn't sit on the deck. The dinner was very good but not outstanding, also served too quickly. The wine list is seriously poor for a top end lodge and the staff don't know their wines well. However, the energy and friendliness of the staff made up for their inexperience.
Having experienced the uncrowded game viewing of the private game lodges of the Kruger area, the Pilanesberg game viewing experience is not good. The game viewing was good(lots of rhino) but spoilt by the fact that there were at least10 other vehicles at a good sighting.
A well located lodge for a quick weekend away from Jhb but I would rather save my budget for when you have more time and get to the private game lodges were the game viewing is less crowded.

We could not fault this safari lodge! Everything was superb - the meals (breakfast, high tea and dinners), the service, the sense of solitude, and of course the animals. We saw leopard, lions, brown hyena and a herds of antelope just from our chalet!

The first night we had dinner with the other guests in the diningroom but on night two we had a 5-course dinner in our room next to the fireplace - magic!

Shawn (the GM) and her team are super efficient and hospitable. Jacques, the safari guide, was most knowledgable and had a great personality. Both are photographers so they know how to position the vehicle so that you get the best lighting for your photographs.

We stayed for two nights and agree that one night is not enough and three nights would have been best!

Room Tip: All the rooms have a view of the waterhole and plains. Numbers 10-12 are a bit closer to the waterho...

I have not bothered before to write a review on a holiday destination but this place is special. My husband and I have just spent 3 nights here and we feel like we have had 6 months off work. It is the most picturesque place, with fabulous views, staff and food. The manager of the lodge made our visit even more fantastic and was our guide throughout the trip. Our sightings were more than you could have ever wanted. A leopard sunbathing, a mum elephant giving herself a pedicure whilst her baby moonwalked across the road. If your thinking of a safari then this place is highly recommended us. We will definitely be going back. Thanks to shawn and her team.

Room Tip: Any room facing the waterhole, rm 10, 11 or 12 are good positions.

Well, it is hard to describe what you see in the eyes of a 9 years old boy when you arrive at Tshukudu for the first time and he realizes that there is a pet cheetah lying down on the terrace.

Amazing family place, great food and the most kid’s friendly staff you can imagine. Our ranger took a great care of our boys (9 and 11) and made them feel like junior rangers.

For the grownups, of course the safaris are not as great as the Sabi Sands ones, but you get to walk with lion cubs which is an amazing experience.

Rooms are nice and clean.

We stayed for 2 days during a short break during a business trip to South Africa. Tshukudu Lodge made a 2 night stay seem like a week or more holiday. Our game guide, host, and lodge manager Wimpie was fantastic - knowledgeable ranger during our exciting game drives to engaging host at dinner.
A wonderful place, well run, clean, good food, and good company!
There is no way to contact the outside world - you don't need it with everything at Tshukudu and in the Pilanesberg to keep you busy. Stay for 2 nights at least to enjoy the lodge.

Room Tip: There is not a bad room - all are suite cottages overlooking the veld near a watering hole

We arrived after a 21/2 hour drive from Johannesburg at Tshukudu and had wonderful game-drives with Shawn, property Manager and Ranger in one person. The location on the little hill is beautiful and you have great views from the big veranda and from the balcony of your room. The food was amazing!

This was the second time I have visited this exclusive place in the bush. The first was with my mom and the second with my husband. I found the food to be incredible, the service to be impeccable, and the guides to be so knowledgeable, friendly, and interactive. We had Vimpy (his nick name) as our guide. He was wonderful! Experienced, knew a ton, and was humble. You could tell he really respected the animals around him and he knew what he was doing. He made me feel safe, which is a lot to be said on a game drive.
Shawn, the property manager, was also wonderful. She checked in with us on a daily basis, sometimes a few times a day, to make sure we were having a good time.
Elvis and the other man who was there too were also incredible. Yes there are stairs, but it's not that bad if you can do it. It's worth every penny!!!!

The only thing I could say is that if the weather is hot, it can get hot in the rooms. No big deal, but just to be prepared.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same. Ask for one at the top of the stairs near the pool. I think they have the be...
