We had reservations at Cybele, close by, but the wild fires had knocked out its power. Cybele had booked us into Jatinga but not been able to contact us before our arrival. So we were very disappointed to have to go to some unknown lodge not even of our own choice. Not to worry. We were greeted very warmly by the Jatijnga staff and things just got better. The accommodations were terrific (after we turned off the humming minibar), with a huge bathroom and outdoor shower. Early every evening canapes were brought to our room. The public rooms are charming, with little areas tucked away where guests can sit undisturbed or in a larger room with fireplace. Food was excellent and service very elegant. We spent hours by the pool in the lovely gardens. We hiked on the White River, part of the grounds. Not much of a river by US standards, but with interesting rock formations and little waterfalls. The path could have been better marked and parts are quite steep. But we enjoyed the mini-adventure. We were not going into Kruger from Jatinga (having just been there), but lots of guests used it as a base for day trips. We would definitely return.
