“Loved the Treehouse concept”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2011

Upon arrival at the gates we were met by friendly staff who already made us feel welcomed. Check-in was quick and my daughter was treated to a little gift, just enough to liven her up after a long drive from Pretoria. The whole treehouse effect is really wonderful especially for the kind of holiday that we were there for. Very unique concept.
Rooms were spacious with a sleeper couch for my daughter prepared in the room. There are also tea/coffee making facilities in the room which is a double plus incl a mini-bar fridge.

The proximity to the Paul Kruger Gate is another HUGE plus point especially if you want to do a drive during the early morning, you can come back to the hotel to freshen up. You'd have to ask the people at the gates to stamp a re-entry onto your slip/ticket, so that should you wish to return later in the afternoon, you don't have to pay again.

Spent 2 nights there and would definitely recommend it to others as well especially if you're not staying within the park. There's a viewing deck from where you can view the animals coming to drink water from the Sabie River in the evenings.

This was the fourth hotel on the Smartours South Africa trip. The rooms were good, the lodge great and the game drives excellant. We did the bedbug inspection and found nothing, nor did we get any bites during our two day stay. We enjoyed wandering around the lodge and spending time on the observation decks. The pool area was nice. There was free internet, but only one terminal so there was usually a waiting line. The game drives were all we had hoped for. We saw the big 5

Don't blow your $ on a lodge inside the park when you can have all this at half the price. The location again is excellent just several hundred metres from Paul Kruger Gate. This allows quick access into the park for early morning and evening spotlight tours. The National Park tours pick up from the hotel. The hotel is built on a grand scale of a rustic tree house concept. Lots of timber walkways built around trees and within sight of the National Park boundary. The rooms are average but comfortable and a good size. The staff vary from hopeless to excellent depending on your enquiry. The food is very good in the restuarant but I would skip the boma dinner. Overall a good hotel and a pleasant experience.

Had just one night 1 May - Room 218

Fantastic location just outside Paul Kruger Gate - although found Kruger a let down in comparison to Etosha NP in Namibia for self driving.

Hotel setting is lovely with wooden walkways everywhere - this does have one slight negative, as the hotel seems to be a magnet for families and they do not seem to have any control over their children as they run at full speed up and down the decking areas, which during meal times rock the tables and is quite unpleasant - therefore, if you are looking for a quiet stay this is not the place ! I don't think it helped that we were at the end of the Easter holidays !

Our room was fine - nothing plush and the bathroom a little basic - but nothing to worry about. It had everything you required, AC, tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer, TV, seating area and you could get a UK adapter from reception (although they did point out if lost or not returned there would be a hefty charge !!)

Meals were buffet style (dinner usually in the Boma - however, during our stay on the decked breakfast area due to weather) The food was of a good standard - with different choices to suit everyone. Drinks were more expensive than other places we had visited in South Africa - but this is probably because you are a captive audience and they can get away with it.

The location is right outside Paul Kruger Gate so you can get an early start and still be back from a late breakfast (open til 10am)

The hotel had FREE WiFi in the reception area - although this only worked once during our stay and they only have 1 pc for use other than this, which was a bit of a disappointment.

In all we enjoyed the hotel

my and my family's experience was totally bad at kruger gate.it lacked mostly in everything.the hotel was falling apart due to lack of maintenence. there was lack of service ,lack of hospitality and bad food.

I had two rooms, the first had a broken door and a broken couch while the other had a broken tub and broken couch.I also noticed that all the rooms were the same as the maintenence guy was called now and then by the whole hotel.the rooms were also not
in proper condition. For housekeeping you need to call a ten times. On enquirement with a staff member i had come to know that the hotel wasnot taken care of from 10 years.
The buffet was very bad and there was no good options especially veggies would find difficulties.

ones used to staying in comfortable places will find staying here equivalent to a nightmare.I personally found nothing of the hotel pleasing.

Excellent hotel. If you want posh then its not for you. The rooms are good. The food is amazing considering they are catering for so many people. Great location to go on safari. I would highly recommend a stay.
