“Fantastic place to stay in St Lucia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

This has to be one the best guesthouses that we've stayed at in South Africa. My parents, husband and I spent 2 wonderful nights here and were greeted with a very warm welcome and a drink. We booked the family unit which consisted of 2 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a lovely patio overlooking the pool. Both the bedrooms and bathrooms were well decorated and very comfortable. The 2 bedrooms are separated by a little corridor which affords you enough privacy between the rooms. We thoroughly enjoyed the buffet breakfast, which has lots of good choices. Our hosts offered us an informative description of the area and the activities on offer, which we found to be very helpful. Our dirty car was also washed on both mornings of our stay. I would rate this guesthouse very highly and recommend it for a comfortable stay in St Lucia.

Hi Shalene, thank you for your feedback. It was a pleasure hosting your family while South Africa dominated in the cricket. Unfortunately your departure ended our winning run which I am sure made your Colin and my Nat very happy. Regards Colin and family.

St. Lucia wetlands guesthouse is very easily on top of my favorite places to stay. A charming guesthouse, with beautiful decor that blends old world charm, modern comforts, antique furntiure and beautiful african art. The guest house owners are charming hosts - they regale you with the history of St. Lucia, guide you on things to do, even make arrangements for your trips to the Park and safaris - and should you desire privacy disappear quietly. The guest house is also close to the Parks, the beach and the wetlands. Definitely the place to stay if you are St Lucia bound.

Stayed here in June. A beautiful, peaceful house. Owners very friendly and helpful and, as everyone else mentions, the breakfasts on the deck are excellent.
St. Lucia is also a great little town, convenient for Cape Vidal and Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve, and you can see Hippo's just by walking down near the beach.
Like to go back with my family.

I don't know why this Guesthouse is not ranked higher than 7th as it is equally as good if not more so than others we have stayed in in St Lucia. The rooms are lovely and immaculate, the gardens are delightful and the pool a real treat. The owners are friendly and helpful and the breakfasts on the deck are memorable. We just missed seeing a hippo who came to the end of the drive just after we had gone to bed, but the droppings were proff that it hd been there- a good reminder to take care when walking to the main street to get an eveining meal. We will certainly return.

St. Lucia, South Africa is one of the most magical places on earth. Beauty stretches miles high above the palm trees when the night sky appears with its composition of stars. Beauty reigns below where the glistening waves of the Indian Ocean gently tug the sandy beaches of the South African Shore. But the Beauty is most apparent in the people we met, and especially in the two people, Hettie and Derick who welcomed us into their home. My husband and I were lucky to stay at St. Lucia’s Wetlands Guest House. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with a warm smile. Since it was late, and our journey from the States was long we decided to rest. A large king size bed draped in mosquito netting greeted us with the long overdue nap we craved. It was wonderful and peaceful.
The next morning we woke to a splendid breakfast buffet. This is where we met Hettie, who is Derick's wife. She is just as charming and friendly as her husband. Every morning Hettie and her staff created an amazing breakfast from sauteed mushrooms, delicious bacon, eggs any way you like em’to a plate full of fresh tropical fruit. Hettie even made blueberry pancakes. I loved them so much she made them for me another day. She even brought the first ones to my table so I could have the first round! Each day my mouth watered in anticipation wondering what would be for breakfast!

On our first day, Derick chatted with us about St. Lucia. He kindly gave us a map and made suggestions for outings. Derick can also book any tours for you. Its really a one stop shop. The one day we drove to Cape Vidal, Hettie supplied us with beach towels and snorkeling equipment. She even wanted to know if we wanted a packed lunch!!!

The entire establishment is wonderful, to the gentleman who washed our car everyday to the women who cleaned our rooms, folded our laundry perfectly, and greeted us in the mornings with cheery hellos.

St. Lucia is indeed a magical place, but Hettie and Derick made our stay special and memorable. Their warmth, hospitality, and generosity cannot be compared. We hope to return one day soon, sit on the balcony and share our stories with them.

Room Tip: We had the room that had a lovely patio with it. One afternoon, I saw monkeys jumping through the tr...

We can't wait to stay at the wetlands guest house again! Loved the breakfast - truly delicious.
Quality of sleep was top notch and the room had everything we could want from coffee to mosquito nets.

The location couldn't be beter as we heard some hippo very close by - early in the morning.

Derick and Hettie are very friendly hosts and Hettie's information about the local attractions helped us get the most out of our stay.

We highly recommend staying at the Wetlands Guesthouse.

We stayed here 4/3 and 4/4, very nice rooms and the Derrick and Hettie and their staff could not have been nicer. Great breakfast, beautiful grounds and house. I especially liked that one of their staff washed our dirty car one morning and indicated he had a vacuum for the inside if we wanted it .
