“Nice self catering lodge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We stayed in Lake St Lucia Lodge last january. It is a nice self catering accomodation where hippo's pass during the night. When you're in the St Lucia do the late afternoon cruise with Stacey. She knows a lot about the hippo's, crocs and bird life around St Lucia.

The positive:

Beautiful garden. Very nice location, just outside the town centre. Helpful host.
Well-equipped private kitchen.

The negative:

Noise from the "Beach Bar" at night. At various and seemingly random times, ants would invade our cabin.
The bathroom was in need of some maintenance.
The cabin had a musty smell to it.

Room Tip: Pick cabin 1 or 2.

We went for a holiday and once again spent some time with Andre and Thea from Lake St Lucia Lodge. Nothing better than being greeted by such a warm face when getting out of the car! Our bungalow was so homely and clean and so well equipped! We had such a great time in the beautiful garden of the lodge.. Braai-ing and taking photos with our precious little 10 month old!! She loved all the flowers!! Andre of course had all his great stories and his Thea always the brave one looking for hippos at the bottom of the garden.
I would recommend Lake St Lucia Lodge to anyone looking to relax and enjoy their holiday with a beautiful atmosphere and such warm friendly faces.

Ah, where to start...................?
Ok, i;ll start at the begining.
I run a 3 star hotel in the KZN Midlands, from time to time we also need a break, so i jumped in my car and headed out to Lake St Lucia, i have been told so much about this place, so i said to myself "myself, go check it out"!

I got into St lucia at about 14H00 & stopped at the tourest info shop to get some leaflets on accommodation in St Lucia. I phoned a few places & just about had a heart attack at the prices they where charging(these did not inculde shares). Well i thought sleep in the car or try find something. After driving around & stopping at a few places a found this place with a blue sign outside & an amazing looking garden..........ummmm another rip off i thought, well i was met by a guy with the name of Andre who told me his rates & that he had space. without thinking in took it.

The room he gave me was large, very large it could sleep 6 people & i was only one !
I started to unpack my car & thought i'd have a lie down before going to get some food, well it was peaceful i woke up at 22H00 starving. Everything was closed barr the small shop at garage in town, two half stale rolls would have to do.
The next day Andre told me about the town & what i could do, well so little time so much to do was the case.
I had a ball & knew i ha to return as i did not have enough time to do all i wanted. (been back 3 times)
The lodge is found down the main road & is within easy walking distance of the towns many eating places, its safe to walk around town at night & enjoy the surroundings.
A place i must tell you about where to go and eat is "FISHY PETE'S", it's in town by the garage & from the outsie looks like a small dirty fish & chips take away joint, well walk through the take away part to the back & you will find an amazing restaurant, cozy & nice. They have the freshest seafood found anywhere, well price too. If you don't do seafood order the "meaty basket" WOW ! what a treat & very well priced.

In the town there are many boating companies that will take you out to the hippo's & crocs on the lake, but one outing you must do, is a life changing one.........................the Whale Watching cruise ! A bit pricey but well worth every cent & more, DO IT ! Don't think about the money, you can't take your money with you when you gone & you will never ever have such an amazing time like that ever again.

At the loge Andre loves talking about his fishing & if you lucky he may invite with on a early morning trip, like what happened with me. 4H30 ????? i'm on holiday !!! Well i went along, & it was the great, i caught my first ever fish rite off the beach, it's the first fish i caught ever, i cant even catch a fish in a fish bowl.

If you want to have an amzing break & good time i can only recommend Lake St Lucia in KZN & Lake St Lucia Lodge & my hotel (but i cant advertise it here!)

we stayed 4 nights in this place instead of the planned 2 nights. It's a nice place, the owners are friendly and helpful with information. The bungalow was quite spacious, the kitchen well equipped and everything was cleaned every day. The garden is very relaxing. The centre is in walking distance. We really enjoyed our stay. I would definitely recommand this accomodation to anyone looking for a nice, quiet place for a good price.

Lake st. Lucia lodge has a great location, its nice and peacefull. There a number a animal on the premesis, we really enjoyed that. You also have a great view of the sunset.
The house provides everything you need to self cater. We loved the furniture.
Andre and Thea are great hosts, they will go the extra mile in order to arrange things for their guests.

My husband and I visited St Lucia two years ago as day visitors and decided that our next vacation would definately be there. Now while searching for a place to stay, we came across quiet a few places that seemed nice enough. Our issue is we wanted the basics and most importantly peace and quiet, we didn't want TVs or other distractions. All we needed was a decent place to sleep, cook and relax. We found it at Lake St Lucia Lodge.

I have to complement the owners, who were helpful, honest and just real nice people to have as hosts. There place is well run, the staff friendly and trustworthy. If you are in need of any advise they are very quick to help with ideas and suggestions. Even arranging fresh fish from local fishermen for when my parents joined us.

We will definately go back and would definately recomend Lake St Lucia Lodge.

Thank you for a wonderful time.
