“An exceptional lodge with an unpretentious style”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2011

From the moment you drive into the shaded carpark, you are treated in a warm and welcoming manner which continues throughout your stay. Iketla is wonderfully situated for those wanting to do the Panorama Route, which makes for a beautiful drive either on your way into or out of Kruger. Rather than stay in one of the towns, we were thrilled to discover Iketla, beautifully secluded with 8 thatched chalets built along the escarpment, each with their own look out to the wooded valley below. Our 2 night stay was ideal, giving us a day to experience some of the walks, both guided and on our own. Paul and Yolandi are enthusiastic hosts, and ensure that all your needs are met. The food is delicious, and beautifully presented in an unpretentious style -- which epitomizes your whole Iketla experience!

We had arrived the rpevious day at Johannusburg ...and after a 1-stay in B&B there nearby, we drove off for our 4-week trip thru SA and arrive at the Iketla Lodge, Wow:
-- what a pleasant arrival arranges by our hosts
-- how nice our lodge was with great and elegant decorations in it
-- the food, enjoyed together with all guests well taken care off
-- very nice walks around on own game resort
-- nearby Panorama route with blue River Canyon
-- good advise for safety (washing of cars with subsequent claims for money) when parking in nearby small Towns
Our bottom line ...book there and enjoy it.

We have had a wonderfull time during our 8 nights stay at Iketla. From our beautifull chalet, we had an incredible view upon the valley. Almost every day we watched and heard the baboons run around down there, as well as the kudu's and warthogs. It is a great place to undertake lots of activities from (like the Panorama route, lots of waterfalls, Mohololo rehabilitation centre, boat trip Blyde river canyon, driving some beautifull passes like the Robbers pass and Long Tom pass, etc). And we can highly reccomend the walking trails that start from the lodge, and the guided tour by Albert. Furthermore, we enjoyed the beautifull outside shower, the quietness in the garden with so many birds and the great dinners. We would like to thank Albert and Hennielene and their staff, for giving us an unforgetable stay!

My wife and I stayed at Iketla Lodge on the last night of our honeymoon in South Africa. This quiet and beautiful lodge, with it's private huts, perched on an overlook, with lots of space, indoor and outdoor showers, and comfy beds was a great was to decompress on our west towards Johannesburg after our safari in the Sabi Sands/Kruger. We had a delicious dinner with the owners and other guests after enjoying some cocktails with everyone in their beautiful dining room, which during the day has gorgeous views of the valley below and surrounding mountains, and we even found some lovely honeymoon treatment in our room when we returned from dinner. There are beautiful hiking trails that go down into the valley that the lodge overlooks, and after a hike it was great to watch nyala and warthogs drink at the watering hole below from the rocky lookout a few feet from our hut. There's even a lovely little curio shop at the lodge. This place is gorgeous.

Iketla is very good value for money. The lodge is rustic but very comfortable and situated in beautiful surroundings. I stayed in the honeymoon chalet which has a bath and a shower with unobstructed views of the mountain from the bedroom. There is a swimming pool and several hiking trails are available from the lodge. Dinner is included and the food is really delicious. Chantelle and Steve, the managers, were very friendly and welcoming. I definitely recommend Iketla.

Iketla is a perfectly positioned hotel from which to explore the Panorama Route. However, it's own grounds are delightful with extensive walks, so if relaxing is your thing then there is no need to leave the property. Chantelle & Steve were running the Lodge and they seemed to be there 24/7 with the simple aim to ensure our enjoyment, which they certainly achieved.
The accomodation is in stone buiilt chalets, most of which had outstanding views.
What was wrong with it. To be honest I can't think of anything. I would heartliy reccomend it to everyone. We will certainly return

This lodge is as good as any we have stayed in around the world and is excellent value in comparison with many of a similar standard.
Our lodge was spacious and tastefully decorated with a lovely view overlooking the waterhole and valley.
The food and service were excellent and all the staff were very friendly. Steve & Chantelle were very knowledgeable and helpful.
We were lucky enough to see some good wildlife whilst at Iketla - monkeys, baboons, kudu, nyala plus lots of fantastic birds.
The lodge is about 45 minutes from the Blyde River Canyon and 75 minutes from Graskop.
We would definitely stay here again if we revisit this area.
