“Excellent jumping off place for Kruger”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

This is a great location just minutes from the Phabeni Gate. The property is very nice and situated right on the banks of the Sabi River. I beleive the renovations must all have been completed because we did not notice anything that needed repair or attention. The units are large and well appointed with all of the amenities needed. You can grocery shop right in Hazyview which is only 5 minutes away to get all of your supplies including BBQ (Braai in SA) which is a must.
The restaurant is so so but you don't go to South Africa for the food and for the most part you are better off preparing your own. The resident Hippos were not around this week but we saw plenty of them on the trip! Joan, the activity coordinator arranged a trip to Kwa-Mbili in Thornybush Reserve which will never be forgotten.

Room Tip: Get the timeshare units by the river, not the hotel.

We had a wonderful 8 day holiday at Sanbonani early January 2012. Upon our arrival we were met by friendly staff and some refreshing orange juice! Units were nicely cleaned and we just loved the weather. The air conditioned units were just perfect. We could set our temperature accordingly. Our evenings were spent braai-ing and listening to the magic of the bush and listening to the rushing of the river down below. One evening we were fortunate enough to be able to see 5 hippo out of the water grazing below us. Nearby horse riding was great and Kruger Park was close by, which we visited twice. I cannot wait to have an opportunity to return to Sanbonani once again. It was an incredibly relaxing place to be .... in fact I could have remained there forever. I would highly recommend Sanbonani Resort.

Parker family.

Room Tip: 39A had an excellent view of the river (Sabie side) 46A had a beautiful view but not of the river...

Service was resonable, but the location can't be any better than if you were in the Kruger Park itself. All lodges are either on the Sabie River or Sand River. We were able to see Hippos grazing just outsie our back porch!

We stayed there for 1 week over Christmas. The staff did everything to make our stay wonderful and their daily activities were very entertaining! We had a three bedroom with 3 bathrooms and the whole place including the lounge was airconditioned. The veranda has a lovely table and we had all our meals out there. Kruger Park was just 10 minutes away. There were wonderful barn owls roosting in the reception roof. I can recomend it to anybody visiting the Kruger area! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Stay in chalets 41 thru 51 for best view of Sabie River, mountains and the Hippos. Units are large and very nicely furnished, 2 brs and 2 baths. The staff from the reception to the daily house cleaning are very helpful and accommodating. Only ate at the resturant once for the breakfast buffet, excellent and good service. When we go back to the Hazyview/ Kruger Park area this is the only place we will stay again. Reviews from past years are not relevant anymore.

We have just returned from Sanbonani and wish we had booked for 2 weeks. We had a super lodge overlooking the river which gave us a great view of the hippos as they climbed out of the river each night. The only let down was the onsite restaurant which seemed to only cater for the coach parties, and offered very mediocre food, however this saved us money as we BBQd every night at our well equiped chalet.
I had the great fortune to meet Joan, the onsite trip organiser, who let me ride her horses twice during my stay. This is a great place, convenient for Kruger and many other local trips, restaurants and shops.
I am surprised to see one or two others have not had the same great experience, as a regular traveller this place more than lived up to our expectations and we would return tomorrow.

This was our second week in SA (after being to Durban) chosen for proximity to Kruger.

Check in was efficient - we were also met by Joan (guest services) see later.
Taken to our roomy, well equipped 3 bed chalet / lodge which over looked the river (including hippos). Lovelly grounds to stroll around and fantastic swimming pool - plenty big enough for a good swim.

The only slight downside was the restaurant - good location over looking the pool - but not brilliant food. The bar in similar location was pretty good and well priced.

One the upside there are great cooking facilities in the lodge including a large and efficient braai.

We chose this location for access to Kruger ( 5 mins from nearest gate - get there for opening time to see most animals ). We also wanted to do a private safari lodge. Joan the guest services manager was a fantastic help - whats good and whats not ! She also gave us access to Monwana - if you do nothing else do give this a try.

For a relaxing self sufficient holiday please give Sanbonani a try.
