Marakele is a almost a secret one does not want to share.... Situated in the heart of the Waterberg Massif, the attraction offers so much more than what one would expect. Incredible views, up-close encounters with the Waterberg and activities that would satisfy a broad spectrum of tastes. Marakele should not be a "Big Five" destination, but rather an escape to a pristine wilderness area where one can charge your soul. The park has two sections accessible to general public and a section where 4x4 enthusiasts can enjoy an exclusive guided where their driving skills will be tested to the limit. The two sections offer accommodation in the form of an exquisite camping site where plains game roam freely - often among the campers! There are also plans for a rustic self-catering tented camp in the pipe-line which will be situated close to the camping site. In the second section where visitors will be met by the awesome vistas of the Waterberg Massif, a second tented camp is situated in a scenic setting that overlooks a dam. In this section visitors will be able to view elephants, leopard, rhino, plains game and a variety of amazing flora. A breath taking route takes one up to the mountain where there are short walks with view points over the undulating mountain range that fills the horizon with silhouettes of unending blue hues. Birders will love this destination, with quite a number of specials only to be found in this area. Game drives will take visitors on tours into the area with well trained guides that will enhance the experience. Self-drives through the Park are very rewarding as well. A wonderful escape to the bush within easy reach from major cities in Gauteng and if you are a first time visitor to South Africa, a great first stop to get a first taste of the African bush!
