“Great camp, great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

We rented a safari tent for 3 night. A great experience! You have the luxery of good beds and fridge and still you are camping. Kitchen/bathrooms are close by and clean. After a game drive you can relax at the pool or at the restaurant. This is nog a big rest camp like lower sabie, but it has enough facilities. At the camp you can see monkey's, deer and a lot of birds. The surrounding are low bushfield with lots of elephants. No rhino and few big cats.

“A badly tarnished jewel, but a jewel nevertheless”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

Letaba is one of the most beautiful and best sited camps in the Kruger Park, and thus deserves the kind of service that would allow it to have 5 stars from all visitors. But, our hut was very indifferently maintained. There was a printout unceremoniously taped to the wall with an inventory of everything in the hut, with hand scrawled notes indicating several items as "missing" (aside from the baracks-like ugliness of this notice, could the items not just be replaced?). The cleaner emptied her dirty mop bucket in the sink and over our toiletries, leaving residue on both. The beds had no undersheets, and the sheets were stained. One night some camp staff let themselves into the empty hut next to ours and stayed overnight, keeping us awake with loud conversation at midnight (the Kruger Park is an early-to-bed-early-to-rise place so that people can go out at dawn to see animals). The next morning these staff left and went on their separate ways to their jobs in their uniforms. Really very depressing. The KNP is THE jewel in South Africa's public crown, and Letaba is an important part of that. How terribly sad to see beautiful Letaba tarnished thus. Satara rest camp was much more well maintained and was incredibly pleasant. I can only conclude that the difference comes down to a culture at each rest camp in which camp management either tolerates low standards and bad behavior or does not. Final note: The restaurants in all rest camps are terrible, hideous abominations, completely unworthy of such a majestic reserve. Buy all groceries outside the park, and do not eat a single thing in the restaurants. It's fun to cook for oneself there anyway; part of the experience! And, once you leave behind the stained sheets, the dirty sink, and the indifferent or even surly staff, and you're driving down those roads looking at the trees, birds, and animals, well...the KNP is a Garden of Eden; one of the most beautiful places on earth, and all the other things melt away.

Room Tip: Ask for a hut far from the administrative offices, the "elephant hall" or the restaurant...

“A true gem of the Kruger”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

What a wonderful surprise Letaba turned out to be. A pity that we only had one night there. We stayed at their guest cottage which was comfortable, clean and well equipped. The view from the restaurant is amazing. It was unforgettable sitting there and watching the elephants. At sunset herds of animals make their way down to the river. You do not even have to leave camp to experience awesome game viewing. The camp itself has a wonderfully stocked shop, restaurant and basically everything you need for a great stay. The elephant hall display is simply amazing.
Great camp. Will definitely visit again - for longer this time!

“Amazing view from the restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Not as modern as the Skukuza rest camp, but you really dont mind when you have such an amazing view from the restaurant veranda. You can sit there for hours watching the animals come and go and the food is quite reasonable. Make sure you leave time just to sit and take it all in

“Nice camp, pity about the monkeys”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

Our second overnight stay in Letaba in nine years, and it remains one of our favourite camps, overlooking the river. Plus, it is in the part of the Park where one usually sees a lot of game - including big cats. The chalets are well equipped and the fittings etc. gave the impression of being in a better state of repair than those of Satara where we had stayed the night before. The semi-tame bushbuck that wander freely around the camp are lovely to watch. Less pleasant are the numerous vervet monkeys that are everywhere. They can be quite agressive and get into everything. There are signs warning you not to leave food (or anything else that might attract their attention) unattended. One of them tried to make off with a box of matches, but dropped it when I yelled at it. The monkeys forage in the wastebins in the chalets' open-air kitchens (so best to use the monkey-proof bins close to the chalets) and have even learned to open the refrigerators on the chalets' verandahs. So one is advised to turn the fridge around so that the doors face the walls and thus cannot be opened by the primates. Hope they find a solution to the monkey problem...
Regardless, Letaba is a very pleasant camp.
