“Beautiful setting and views”

We stayed here during March 2013. Club member have express check in, which is a bonus.
Stayed at the Sea View Suit. Absolutely beautiful room, with large bedroom, lounge, tea/coffee station, balcony and another toilet for guests.

Pros: Room was clean
Staff friendly
kiddie friendly with splash pools and kids menu

Cons: buffet was not up to standard and small for such a big five star hotel
desserts at the buffet dinner was recycled from the night before
pull out couch terrible, caved mattress with hole in the bedding
housekeeping not up to standard. (we left one morning at 8am, came back at 14:30 and
the room was not done yet). Then the house keeping wanted to come back for night shift
at 9pm that night...

Room Tip: Apply online to be a President club member, then book online, it will be cheaper.

We stayed this past weekend, and were wowed by the very helpful, friendly staff and the great view! Had dinner in the new restaurant and it was absolutely fantastic. The experience was all and more than we expected.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are large and has a balcony with terrace furniture

Stayed here last September for my anniversary & service, food & rooms were excellent. My stay there 3 days ago, was another story. Although service is excellent, the cleanliness of rooms were shocking for a 5 star hotel. From dirty curtains, to dusty couches, food & food stains & dust on dinning room chairs, mould on couches, hair in dryer, thick dust under chair in room, seems it might not have swept for over a month.
Wall paper was torn.
Ate at the Coral tree restaurant, which was Buffett dinner & was nothing to right home about, very limited selection & not 5 star dinning experience at all.
I am a frequent traveller who has stayed in so many 4 & 5 star hotels abroad (Dubai, Hong Kong, Thailand, Canada etc) who's cleanliness are much higher than Fairmont Zimbali 5 star. Bit of a sour taste this time.

my wife and i stayed there to celebrate our wedding annivesary.Service was good by some staff and not so good by others.Got welcoming card in room but had some other guests name on it.My wife and i had dinner at the restuarant and both felt ill afterwards ,to the extent that we were both up all night.So it wasnt quite the wedding anniversary that we had planned !

From bookings, to arrival, to staff politeness, professionalism and friendliness, the rooms, the resort and dining experience... And most importantly, how good they treat children... Our stay was a very memorable experience.

Room Tip: The rooms on level 1000 are at ground level , with very limited sea-view... Ask for upper level...

My husband and I visited Zimbali Resort from 18-21 April 2013 for some quality "alone time" before our 2nd baby arrives in July. As this is a 5 star resort, one would expect 5 star service in all aspects...unfortunately, this was sadly lacking.
When we arrived at the resort, we were advised that we'd been upgraded to a Garden Suite. However, the suite was not yet ready but they could not tell us how long we'd need to wait. In addition, I had specifically requested a room with a sea view and balcony. When my husband enquired whether the upgrade included a sea view with a balcony, we were advised that all the rooms have a sea view.
We actually waited for over an hour for our room – even after we followed up with reception twice - when all I wanted to do was get settled in and put my feet up!! In the meantime, we were offered some refreshment but we were hungry after coming from Cape Town and wanted some food. No restaurant could accommodate us with food as they'd all closed at 3pm!!
In desperation, we ordered some scones and hot chocolate which arrived just when our room became available. We requested that the scones and hot chocolate be sent to our room.
The Garden Suite, as the name suggests, is outside the hotel – and we were transported there in a golf cart. Whilst we were grateful for the upgrade, I was not keen on being outside the hotel as I tire easily and wasn’t up to taking a walk to the hotel.
Our scones eventually arrived 20 mins later without cutlery….and without hot chocolate as the waitress had spilt it along the way!! When we realised there was no cutlery, we called Reception 3x to have them send some cutlery….the cutlery probably took just under an hour to eventually reach us!!
We also noticed that there was only one bathrobe in the room and requested that housekeeping send another one. The railing in the bathroom was broken. The TV had no sound and we had to request a technician to assist us. He had no clue what the problem was but eventually, we got some sound.
Also, more importantly, the room had an obstructed view of the ocean and there was certainly no balcony!!
My husband immediately contacted reception telephonically and personally on about 3 occasions to request another room as this was not what we requested. They said that they were fully booked for the duration of our stay but would try to accommodate us if anything changed. We were incredibly disappointed despite the upgrade in accommodation.
The last night of our stay we noticed that one bathrobe had been removed and our towels had not been replaced. We had to request additional towels!
The location is amazingly beautiful but sadly our stay was marred by inefficiency and disorganisation. We simply did not expect this level of service from a resort that prides itself on 5- star hospitality.

This was a great getaway. However, I picked a room with "Sea View and Private Balcony" and it was more like a "Tree View with Shared Balcony." There is a huge tree in front of room 3027 and the large balcony is shared with two more rooms!

Room Tip: Avoid room 3027 if you want real sea view and privacy on your balcony.
