“Wonderful location. Magical.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2011

We stayed here over new year 2010/2011. It's right on the lagoon and consists of several bungalows and lodges located around the site. My inlaws had a cabin that was up some outside stairs amongst the trees. It almost felt like a treehouse, except that it was very luxurious inside with its own little kitchenette. Me and my husband stayed in The Boathouse, right on the water. It's tiny but lovely. Very romantic with a big bath, fridge and doors that open to a little patio and straight onto the lagoon. You can sit in bed and watch the ducks. Breakfast is on the patio if fine, overlooking the water, or indoors in the nicely furnished lounge. Incidentally, if you're interested in sculpture, these ladies know how to buy art. Lots of lovely pieces about.
Oh, there are even two lovely dogs to fuss!

My only concern: although manager Renee and owner Maureen are friendly and helpful, although nobody could help us find any food on new year's day! EVERYTHING is shut, even the petrol station is on a half day - we ended up at macdonalds several miles away. As this is a tourist location (you should've seen the queues at the petrol station!) and is obviously an annual problem, I wonder if they could provide a buffet lunch/dinner on new year's day?

We stayed together with our 2 daughters in the stone cottage which is the one nearest the enterance the configuration of the cottages are two rooms sharing one bathroom which if you have young children is great but did not work so well for us and not for two couples sharing

Unfortunately the weather was not great on the first day and we had breakfast in the main room but the next morning the weather improved and we had breakfast on the deck which was fantastic

The rooms were nice and modern and clean

Wilderness was one of our favourite stops on our tour of the Garden Route and Moontide was one of our favourite places to stay. Its easy to find as its tucked away just off the highway along a lovely little lake. The location is beautiful, the rooms are gorgeous (and uniquely decorated) and the service is excellent. We loved that it was within walking distance of the main town area so we could leave our car and walk to dinner. Our only regret was that we were only able to stay one night.

If you like a quieter, less commercial atmosphere, cut your time in Knysna a bit short and stay here instead.

We were driving the Garden Route and discovered this gym. One of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in.

When you travel through sout Africa, chances are likely that you will pass the town of Wilderness, situated somewhere in between Cape Town and tsitsikamma. The region itself invites to relax. no safaris.
So if you pass here, it's important to choose an accomodation where you can chill down, and Moontide is just that kind of place. Everything here invites to cool down and relax a bit after the busy driving or Game driving.
the hotel has a fex charming rooms, a nice lounge, and some great seats by the lake, which is also swimmable. breakfast at the water is superb. the service is great, and not to forget: there are 2 fantastic dogs, Saskia and Sam. if you pass here, go to Moontide..

Moontide was a charming, waterside guesthouse with a delicious breakfast, helpful staff, and a cute dock with paddleboat. Our room was clean, with a nice tea setup, large bathtub, terry-cloth robes, and view of the water. The garden / docks are a little dusty and need tending, but that would be my only only complaint. The room was clean and comfortable and spacious, and the porch and patio with tables had a gorgeous view of the water. The staff made good dinner recommendations and helped us plan a nice day trip with a hike and beach stop.

I came to get to know South Africa during the FIFA World Cup with two friends and we stayed at about twelve different Hotels and Country houses. Moontide was by far the nicest place we stayed at during our whole trip. The hosts were marvellous and the rooms of outstanding beauty. The owners must have spent a lifetime decorating the individual rooms. They are all unique. We had our breakfast on the beautiful deck right on the lagoon accompanied by kingfisher an egret. If there is on place on earth worth to be called paradise is most likely here.
