“Amazing location with a few kinks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

We had a gorgeous, modern room right on the ocean with incredible views. The views are amazing from every room, including the breakfast room. Breakfast was excellent, with cold and hot dishes made fresh for you. Our room's heater didn't work (radiant floor heat), so we were given a space heater, which worked fine. Our hot water didn't work very well, either, which was a shame because the shower was huge and amazing. The host was very friendly and staff very sweet. It was too cold to use the swimming pool, but the beach was just a few steps down, which provided a wonderful place for long walks. There is also a very good restaurant within easy walking distance with lovely outdoor seating.

Excellent value for great accomodation, helpful host, beautiful building and superb breakfast! Staff were professional and polite.

Recommend visiting Beatrix Bosch, a renowned artist a few doors down at #57.

This is a stunning property which might just take your breath away inside and out. We loved it. You can reach the beach from your room via a stair case straight onto the beautiful and wide sandy bay. The main highlight of this guest house is without a doubt the views and the huge glass walls in all areas of the property give you plenty of access to these. From quirky art work to the modern and minimalistic furnishings this is the kind of home we would love to own in our dreams! There were also plenty of luxury touches with a well established library and gorgeous shampoos and soaps (both appreciated a lot more by my wife than me because she reads and has hair!!).

This guest house is also really well located for restaurants and lovely walks. A couple of minutes away by car is a strip of small eateries. We are not sure Wilderness is somewhere you would stay for long but for a day of rest and relaxation it was great.

Unfortunately I cannot give the full 5 stars for two main reasons.
a) the blinds in our room (2?) could not be pulled up and my wife wanted a bath with an ocean view. I tried to pull them up but unfortunately they came off the bracket
b) While the breakfast was tasty enough, for the price (and with other guest houses as comparisons) I would have expected a full English as standard. It only offered cooked eggs.

Heidi the current manager was lovely and helpful, despite a broken foot. Do not take the 4 stars rather than 5 as a reason not to book here but we just feel when you are paying for luxury (a rare thing for us) you need to be honest about these things! Overall a top notch place to spend an evening.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms with a view straight out onto the beach - ask for them.

Set in an ideal location, Ocean View is just that. Every room looks out over the water and the only sound you'll hear is the roar of the ocean. I received great service and enjoyed the heated floors. Windows everywhere to maximize the view.

No major complaints.

We loved our stay at this stunning, modern guesthouse with fabulous views on the beach from every corner in the house. The interior decoration is wonderful, great rooms with direct access to balconies or the swimming pool. Excellent breakfast and very friendly host and staff. Just forget about Wilderness itself (pretty dull) and enjoy the beachfront and Ocean View.

Ocean View is a fabulous contemporary guest house located right on the beach with breathtaking views of the sea. First impressions are of a brilliantly designed, spacious, light building with unusual artwork and luxurious furnishings.  I'll  never forget walking into the building - the view of sea sound of the waves were magical. The beach was fairly deserted and remained like his during our 3 day stay .. very surprising since it was the end of the summer when the weather was still hot. Walks along the beach where therefore an absolute joy.

All the rooms have great views of the sea although some better than others. We were originally booked into room 3 but asked to move since the full length windows were much narrower than in other rooms making the room a little dark. The ground floor room (6) is much bigger, lighter and with better views.

Would  love to give this a 5 throughout but one or two areas need to be looked at:
After dinner ( all 3 nights of our stay) we would return to OV to find the place in darkness ( only10.30 pm)- not welcoming and not easy finding the light switches and negotiating 2 flights of stairs. Also there seems to be a slight problem with condensation but maybe this is a hazard of being right on the beach - the property is built on a sand dune.
Although there is an honesty bar in the lounge , the rooms don't have a fridge ( the only place we stayed without one)so couldn't keep drinks cold or have fresh milk with tea/ coffee.
Having said this Jan was enormously helpful and went out of his way to accommodate our needs.

This area has some great restaurants including  The Girls which is very  close by .
I strongly recommend  one of the local activities - taking a picnic , canoe for 40 mins  followed by a 40 min walk to a waterfall . A fabulous day out !!

Whilst I cannot argue that the position and style (getting a bit dated in places) is excellent, I would say that the customer services side of things need looked after.

We arrived at 14.00 to find that no electricity would be on until 21.00 that night, having confirm the reservation with a credit card we were not offered to not check in and try somewhere else.

We the struggled heavy suitcases down two flights of stairs without any help to our quickly darking room.

We decided to go out for a meal and return at 21.00 to watch some TV and catch up with emails only to find the place in complete darkness and a few lite candels on the stairs to guide the way to our completely dark room.

The owner did ot seem to make any provision for lighting the rooms by the way of candels or other forms of lighting (broke a very expensive glass jug that we had been given due to tripping over it during the night).

Come morning we found that electricity had returned at 3.00 just in time to have our first luke warm shower, one would have thought that in lieu of all of this upset one would have been offered some discount....but no life went on even charging for a bottle of beer I had earlier in the evening.

Whilst I do not expect the owner to magically get some electricity I feel that there was a complete lack of customer care and would suggest that you look instead to Villaafrikana in Knysna a short distance away with superb rooms, views and owners.

Dear unknown guest,

After receving your negative report re service I discussed your mentioned facts with my 2 personal staff.

Nor them or me recognise or remember the facts re luggage doing yourself (2 stairs down) and
your need for information, that one of us would tell you: reed your info book in the room.

We operate daily just the opposite of what write in your review.

Hope you can read German and Italian guest reviews, so that you can reed what I mean.
We are a helpfull team and we will stay that way.

We are sorry, that we did not forfill your needs during your stay.

Kind regards
