“Excellent resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

Unfortunately we only had a short stop over on our way back to Durban and the worst drives in the world.
Lovely superior room, with great view of the Mountains. The end of January is a quite time, so there were few people about. Suited us! Due to the low number of visitors only the Buck and Trout restaurant was open. I had the best steak in many years. That make the long drive from Ladysmith all worth while. My early morning swim in the very large was a good start to the day, but unfortunately after a good breakfast we had to say farewell to this wonderful spot.

Dear Ian,

Thank you for your feedback on the property.
I am interested to know why the drive was so bad, and if there was any aspect we could, or I can address.
It does sound like your visit was very short, and normally we have guests stay for extended periods.
Great to know your experiences were excellent, and definitely hoping you have a longer visit next time. Please drop me a line if you need to make a booking, or have any queries about the Resort - lots happening this year again.

Kind Regards

Peter

Shared a weekend to the Drak with a huge group of Harley Owners mates and what an awsome time we had. Got drenched with a huge storm into the Drak but the great reception of the management and staff made a difference to the warm welcome. Quickly the boys found the bar and the girls the good food and all gathered on the stoep for the rest of the weekend. Great service and even better food throughout the entire weekend made up for the bad weather. We all enjoyed the time and will be back shortly, hopely when its dry to actually experience all the great atractions there. Thanks Peter and team, your efforts were noticed!

Dear Neville,

It was certainly a wet ride for your crew to us on the Friday, and even after some tired bikers struggled to get warm, it was fantastic having every single person up here with us.
We certainly made some new friends, and I am sure will be seeing all of the good HOG friends at the berg again sometime.
It really was festive catering for and looking after everyone - we will ensure no rain in future for those needing a return trip.

Thank you to everyone for having such a great time

Dear saradurban,

Lovely to see that you and the visitors from the USA had a great stay with us.
There is an excellent team running the Fairways, in the name of Sandra Blessie, always providing some excellence in your stay.
We also look forward to having you with us again, and having our regular guests enjoying the Drakensberg.

Kind Regards

We visited the resort for a wekeend break from the City. What a lovely time we enjoyed here .

There are different room types and as far as I know we had a hotel room. Large bedroom area and an even larger bathroom , with under floor heating, which in Winter is fantastic.
Facilities for kids and adults are fantastic. Great Spa and wellness centre, I loved their large heated indoor jet pool , I could spend all day in there. There is also the golf course, hiking, horse riding. Kids have the chance to visit their on site petting zoo, even us adults enjoyed it.
Staff on site are really fantastic. Pete the GM is a great guy !

Overall very impressed

Room Tip: Any room overlooking the mountain range is lovely. Ground floor rooms open onto grassed lawns.

I have been going to Drak Gardens since 1982 and over the years have seen it develop into a truly magnificent resort. From a very ropey hotel with campsite attached it has become one of the best resorts in the Drakensberg. I have stayed at the camp sites, the hotel as well as the time share units and all are wonderful.

I am a keen golfer and the course has also progressed remakably from the days when it was a simple nine hole 'berg' course. It is now a very challenging 18 hole course with breathtaking views.

Although it is in the 'unfashionable' Southern Berg the resort is really worth a visit and would be so much more popular if it was more accessible to the Gauteng holiday makers.

The food is great, the drinks are reasonably priced and it is wonderful to see the same staff year after year. They really look after us well. A vert strong recommendation for the 'Bunny Chow' served at the golf club.

In addition to golf they have numerous other activities and the resort is definitley geared towards family holidays.

Room Tip: For family travellers try to get into one of the timeshare units - either Riverbend (which is nice a...

Dear Richard H,

Many thanks for your review on our Resort, and for a guest that has been returning for 30 years, it is lovely to see your positive comments and approval of how the Resort has grown and improved over the years.
Quite right, we are focused on activities and keeping everyone busy, and are immensely proud of the golf course and the improvements made over the last few years.
We are hosting our second Pro Am this February, and have a membership base which is growing year by year - lots of golfers who are proud to call Drakensberg Gardens their home course.
This year sees more improvement on fairways and teeboxes, and the joy of adding some distance and variety onto the 18 holes with the completion of our Championship tees. This will involve the rerating of the course by the NGU before the end of Jan 2013.
Our goal is always to create enjoyable, challenging, but never difficult holes, that offer the longer stay golfer a chance to play the course from varying angles and distances. Glad you enjoyed it!
We will make sure the "Bunny Chow" stays on the menu at the Glengarry Clubhouse.

Many thanks once again,

Peter Muil

My husband and I spent a week in the Mountain View Chalets attached to Drakensberg Gardens Hotel. Our stay was great, the staff at the hotel and the chalets were very efficient, the food in the hotel diningroom and the other two restuarants was excellent and the scenery around the hotel is magnificent. there were a couple of busloads of overseas tourists there and they seemed to be loving it, also excellent place for children and loads of great walks around.

Room Tip: We were in the chalets so can't comment on the hotel rooms, but if I was going to stay in the ho...

Good Day "Italyfan"

Great to have Durbanites up at Drakensberg Gardens, and fantastic to hear that you loved your stay with us.
We have done lots of work in our restaurants, and I believe have one of the best teams ever to manage this Resort - something we are proud of, and will never stop improving, for you.
There is a lot to do, and family is our focus, where we take great pleasure in having our guests leave with comments on the number of activities available, and the fact that the location is no less than spectacular.
Your review is much appreciated, and your enjoyment of our property is a great reward for the whole team here.

Many thanks,

Dear Sir,

Many thanks for your positive review of our Resort.
Unfortunately the weather is one of those things we do not have control over. Happily it does bring some consolations at time, and you had the opportunity of seeing these wonderful mountains with a blessed dusting of snow!
Agreed, much of our focus is on the outdoor active individual, and we certainly hope that everyone was kept entertained and busy by our team here.
I hope your next visit will be as pleasant, and that you will be coming to us for a list of fun things to do and see while here - we are always on the drive to make your stay exceptional.

Kind Regards
