The trip over the Sani pass into Lesotho was one of the highlights of our S African trips . We left from Underberg in 4 wheel drive vehicles and headed up over the most hazardous, scenic amazing mountain road we had even been on. I would certainly advise anyone making the trip to only go in a vehicle driven by one of the guides that do it every day. I would not for any money go in a 4 wheel vehicle with someone inexperienced. You cannot imagine the bends and the road conditions and then in winter there is ice and snow to contend with. At the top you are in Lesotho a barren empty area where the people seem to live on nothing yet welcome everyone into their homes . One of the must do trips when in South Africa. NB you need your passport and check that a visa is not needed. UK and Irish passport holders are fine but some European passports are not accepted and an administration fee ( bribe) may need to be paid
A totally amazing trip .
One of our group( an elderly lady) suffered from bad altitude sickness but just had to endure the trip as there was no quick way back .
