Description: Since 2002 hundreds of coffee devotees have trooped through the Lemon Tree doors every day to enjoy the amazing cappuccino. For the second time in three years a survey of around 350 restaurants in KwaZulu-Natal rated LEMON TREE’s cappuccino one of the province’s 20 BEST. This accolade was achieved in the definitive 2010/11 and 2012/13 Sunday Tribune Cafe Society Awards. The international hospitality monitor, TripAdvisor recognised Lemon Tree Bistro with its 2013 Certificate of Excellence. This prestigious award places the restaurant in the top-performing 10% of all businesses worldwide on TripAdvisor, and indicates businesses that consistently earn high ratings from TripAdvisor travellers. The hospitality and catering team, guided by owners Huck and Elsabe Orban, has taken what was essentially a coffee shop with a Continental slant to the level where it is one of the best recognised country restaurants in South Africa. Not only is it listed on several international country travel guides as a "Must Visit!" - amongst which the popular Lonely Planet - but it also serves as destination for both foodies and coffee aficionados. Its easy-dining, bistro menu to which special features like Venison Pie, de-boned Rainbow Trout, the incomparable Kudu Fillet and the famous pistachio-crusted Lamb Cutlets have been added, ensures that everyone's taste from essential to eclectic, is catered for. Besides the crisp croissants, baked on the premises every day, the Lemon Tree will serve you the most memorable Prawn Pasta, Prego Roll and hand crafted Toasted Sandwich you have ever had. Finish that off with the oh-so-moreish Beetroot Cake and a cappuccino and you'll be back for more.... time and again. When you walk through the door you enter the Lemon Tree's wonderful world of goodies... an interesting selection of books - both old and new, a range of branded and house coffees, brewing and cookery requisites and a deli filled with a delightful range of wines, imported biscuits, chocolates, jams and condiments. See you there...

Best spot for miles around! I always enjoy sharing a special moment over coffee or a good meal when I'm in town.

“Friendly and personal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

A ate here in the evening one weekday in January. The Greek salad, grilled trout and homemade desserts were all delicious. The owners were super friendly and we ended up chatting for quite some time

“Simple, tasty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

We ate here a couple times during our trip to the Drakensburg in October. The first time it was a very rainy afternoon and the lentil soup was very warming and nicely seasoned, and the chicken salad was beautifully presented and tasty. The second time we came was for dinner, and my trout was good (but not amazing)--my friends were more successful with their pot pie and fish. Our waitress was really sweet. Our only suggestion would be that the television be turned off for dinner, as it seems odd to be enjoying a nice dinner with the rugby on in the background. It's definitely a sweet little community spot and if you're looking for a place to eat in Underberg it's a good choice.

“Worth a stop!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012 via mobile

Great setting, good food and nice atmosphere. Will definitely stop again when in the area.

Underberg / Himeville area is a great little colonial piece of Africa.

“Definitely worth a visit if in Underberg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

I had a great dinner here, washed down with some very drinkable wine. The owner provided interesting and entertaining conversation and opened up the shop at the back, where I bought loads of little foodie presents for friends. They also have a bookshop at the rear. Centrally located.
