“Best hotel experience ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

From the moment we stepped thru the door we experienced superb hospitality, attentive and professional without being overbearing. Room was superb , waking up to a view of the Indian Ocean and lighthouse.Breakfast was an event! Smiling chefs on hand to serve up a wide range of favourites. Spa treatment was best ever in a hotel. The perfect end to our Natal holiday experience

“Brilliant service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

We stayed in The Oyster Box when we got engaged 11 years ago (prior to its refurb) and I decided to surprise my wife with a "one night splash" for our 10th wedding anniversary.

It certainly is a five star hotel, and although pricey, if you can afford it, it certainly is worth the extra money. The location is excellent - right on the beach behind the Umhlanga Lighthouse and from the pool terrace it is a nice view if you look across the pool's infinity edge onto the ocean - very relaxing. Especially when sipping a poolside cocktail.

We received a complimentary upgrade to a luxury suite - thank you for the nice touch! The room was tastefully decorated with a HUGE balcony overlooking the ocean. Make sure you order in-room breakfast on the balcony. A huge spoil.

Service was great allround - we left a wallet the room when we checked out and only realized this when we tried checking in at the airport. Phoned the hotel and voila - wallet (with all contents) was delivered to us half an hour later at the airport. 5 star service from a 5 star hotel - thanks again!

Looking forward to visit you in future again.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a seaside view - its is worth the extra money!

“Colonial splender”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

I have to say the hotel came as a bit of shock having spent the last few nights in a real beach hideaway up on the Mozambique border. We were greeted by colonial costumed staff who removed the bags, parked the car and handed us a glass of champagne as we checked-in. The whole experience reminded me of the Indian Raj. This is really good hotel of the highest standards with excellent staff and fabulous food. The hotel stacks up against some of the best places we have stayed in the World and I don't often say that. Breakfast was a true banquet enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the sea. Our room lacked for nothing, although it was slightly on the small size, but I am being picky here. We choose to eat dinner out in one the areas many good restaurants. The booking was handled efficiently by the hotel who even offered their driver to take us there and back. My only disappointment is, that it is unlikely we will ever be back in Durban to enjoy the Oyster Box again - shame!

Room Tip: Always ask for a sea view room as the view is great

“Going the extra mile”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

The Oyster Box Hotel has a soul and that is why I love staying there and organising events there. This week’s ‘Sunday Breakfast Club’ far exceeded everyone’s expectations (including mine!) As the organiser, I found the OBH team more than ‘went the extra mile’. The beautiful surroundings, excellent service and delicious food set the scene for the speaker, ‘JvB’. I highly commend the General Manager, Wayne Coetzer and his team for consistently meeting the highest standards.

“Now my favorite hotel - Oyster box is every inch a great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

From momemt we arrived everyone smiled and couldn't help us enough. As many reviews say, everything from service, to rooms, to services and facilities is geared to making the stay a perfect one. We had a room on the ocean side,Bedroom and bathrrom was perfect and I had to photograph everything as this was my ideal layout and setup. [Wriing this makes me want to be there now!] The dining from breakfast, to dinner, to just having a cup of tea was lovely. So convenient to walk from terrace to the beach.
The location is tremendous and it is so relaxing just sitting and looking out at the ocean and watching the ships go by.
I was just sorry we couldn't stay longer.

Room Tip: We had a reat view of the ocean.
