“Wonderful Taste of Africa!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2013

Let's just start by saying THE PEOPLE ARE FANTASTIC!

This lodge is lovely in its own way but the staff made the trip! We spent our first 2 nights in the tent. Which was charming and big... Amongst the animals....

But we were there in October (spring rainy season) and between the wind and rain on canvas...well let's just say there was no sleeping. I über stand they are making the tents less tent like because of this.

We moved into a motel like room which was perfect. You will find after 2 game runs a day you are pretty tired and will sleep like a child.... The Boma (out door restaurant) was terrific and the Zulu entertainment at dinner fascinating. Bring your camera to dinner...you won't want to miss it. Many of the dancers are also employees of the lodge so they may be cleaning your room or serving you food...

Take a day trip to the school....it's both humbling and enlightening. The kids are so fascinated by us and we by them. The kids sang and danced for us and then asked us for a song.... Unprepared we sang "she'll be coming around the mountain when she comes" badly...

Also don't miss Pinda ....that's where the lions are....really cool

Great stay! Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: I don't think there is a bad room! Be aware the tents could get noisy!

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon. He has dietary restrictions (gluten, dairy, etc) and they were so accomodating and made special meals for him at no extra cost. The employees become your friends by the time you leave and the game drives are AMAZING! We saw cheetahs, giraffes, monkeys, hippos, white rhinos, buffalo, nyalas, exotic birds, elephants and lots of other amazing critters! Definitely want o go back there some time!

This was an amazing vacation. The grounds were immaculate, the employees were so friendly and helpful and the safari trips were exciting- each and every one. Our safari guide Dumi went out of his way to make sure that we really saw everything there was to see. He recommended 3 side trips, The Elepant Encounter, Penda and A boat trip to St Lucia. He was assigned to our group at all times. Imagine waking up to zebras right outside your (Glam Tent) My daughter stated that she never had South Africa as a place that she really wanted to visit, but when we all were leaving, we all said it was a place that we wish that we never had to leave. Hooray for having a wonderful providing us with a PICTURE perfect time.

We stayed both in Safari Lodge and the Heritage Logde Luxury Tents and although we enjoyed both the Hertiage Tents were amazing. The genuine feel of being on a Safari with impeccable accommodations. We really enjoyed our stay in the tents.
Safari's start super early in the morning and late in the day so you have some down time in the middle to read, explore the neighboring towns etc, but be prepared for that middle of the day down time.
We saw amazing animals from Cheetah to Elephants, Cape Buffalo to Giraffes... we missed the Leopard through our 4 day stay, but we enjoyed every part of the experience. We recommend the day trip to Phinda (lions) and the trip to St. Lucia for the Hippo cruise if you are looking for excursions.

Room Tip: We would absolutely recommend the Luxury Tent stay- had we know we would not have split our time and...

We stayed in the tents for three days after staying the Game Lodge... Really spacious tents and very clean with well appointed amenities... The safari guide, Bernie, was THE BEST and really make our trip one of a lifetime!! Nyala and zebra wander the grounds freely really adding to the safari feel.

Room Tip: they are renovating so get one of the newer rooms...

We had a wonderful stay at Zulu Nyala! Thanks to Anton, our guide, the daily morning and afternoon safari drives yielded something different each time. We watched drama unfold at the hippo pond when a rejected young male attempted to rejoin the pod. Another morning a mother cheetah was teaching her youngster how to hunt impala. We watched giraffes awkwardly getting a drink of water at the water hole. It was an amazing site. We also saw many very young animals with their mothers. As for the facilities, food at the dining hall was plentiful and accommodations were comfortable. To get to Zulu Nyala, we contacted Endless Summer for transportation from the Durban Airport. We received prompt service, enjoyed very pleasant company, and paid a very reasonable price. We highly recommend Endless Summer! All in all, this trip will be a hard one to top. If you enjoy observing animals in the wild and/or photographing them, you should also have an exciting, memorable time!

We stayed with Zulu Nyala with another couple, we had asked for tent #4 and 5 which are in a great location. We truly enjoyed the tents but would point out that they do not have AC, so if it is really hot, some may be bothered by this.
I felt the staff at the Heritage Lodge were someone friendlier than those at the Game Lodge, but both locations are nice.
The food was very good and plentiful, although I would like to have seen more variety of local game animals.
Our guide James was awesome; he really made the whole experience great.
We made an excursion to Phinda, and enjoyed it so much we went back two days later. We also did the school/village cultural exchange. The children sand for us, and then asked us to sing to them…it was a real treat.

Room Tip: Rent a car and drive from Durban, this will allow you rfreedom to drive to town or the various outly...
