“Good Place to Learn about the Culture”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2014

I was part of a tour that stopped here for a visit to the village and to see the cultural show. It was very worthwhile. Aspects of village life were explained and the Zulu culture was explored with the guide. After the tour of the village there was a very good display of Zulu dancing accompanied by traditional music. It was a good way to learn about the Zulu culture. Worthwhile seeing. There is a small gift shop associated with the village.

We recently had a large group of international tourists who we took to Dumazulu for the show and lunch. Since ive last been there I can see a great improvement. There seems to have new management who have cleaned up the place but I didnt stay overnight so I can not tell you about the accommodation.

The show is good, my guests all seemed very happy and interested in the information and dancing. Some of the "actors" were very interactive with some of our prettier guests and there was lots of laughter heard.

The food was nice. It was a simple braai with salads but some of the food, like the salads ran out quickly and we had to ask the staff to refill.

The place has lots of potential!

Very friendly staff that made us feel at home in a tranquil but still active place in the middle of no where. The zulu village tour is amazing. You'll not only learn some basic zulu words but will experience the true culture of the zulu accompanied by an excellent guide.we enjoyed the fact the whole lodge was built as a zulu village.the food is freshly cooked and tastes awesome. Nothing was to much for the team . There is some good entertainment too and plenty of activities if you travel with kids. Thanks a lot for your great hospitality heinz! Bridget and shaun

It was a very long drive and to be honest we wondered if it was all worth it but.... it was...!!! We were well received and looked after and the traditional village was well presented. Everyone works really hard though it must be remembered these folk are acting! Some took it seriously but you only have to step outside the village to realise they are well into the real world. Satellite dishes on their rooves and beautifully dressed children returning form school.
It was great to interact with the workers with cheeky smiles and lots of giggles. They work incredibly hard to display their heritage.
The meal was plenitiful and freshly cooked but we only visited we did not stay.

After a long, long drive from Swaziland with my group of 20 Chinese clients we arrived a DumaZulu where we enjoyed a traditional buffet lunch, it was mouth watering and the staff was very friendly too. After our delicious lunch we enjoyed a 3 hour afternoon game drive and our guides were very informative.
Highly recommended whether for accommodation, lunch, game drives or reptile park.

My cottage was huge but everything inside a little old. Dusty old couch, tv didn't work, kitchen light was broken (however, there was a full kitchen which was comfortable but nothing in there to clean the dishes and a package of mouldy bread on one of the shelves). Shower and bed were nice.
It was quite a walk to the restaurant area. Buffet was nice, as well as the breakfast but service needs a little improvement to speed up breakfast for groups larger dan just one family. Wifi around the restaurant area, not exactly clear what the costs for wifi were (different with any staffmember asked, from etxremely expensive to free) but most of the time didn't work in the morning.
The resort itself looks nice, very green and with a nice pool.

We were on a tour and visited only the village which is not original, but made to look authentic. We learned some of the language and culture, saw some of the stuctures and housing. An older man dressed as a zulu greeted us and was funny and charming, as was Issac who seemed to be the coordinator of the project. A zulu woman was our guide around the village explaining the different sites--pottery, weapons, cooking, etc. At each site, there were some young men and women, demonstrating different tasks (a turn off was when some of them where disinterested and bored). They later gathered to show some Zulu dancing (which went on a little too long). The tour ended with a small buffet lunch (the most interesting item was cooked pumpkin as a vegetable). The zulus have a long and proud history--this gives you a small inkling of that--it is probably a good idea to read more about them to get in depth information.
