“Too many positives with staff!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

We stayed here for for 5 nights and have to say that we really enjoyed our stay. The manager Dave and his wife Michelle are wonderful as well as the staff at the hotel. We were on a photo safari and were able to enjoy the wonderful dinners here every night. The food was great!!!! We were very comfortable at the lodge, my only problem would be internet access. I happen to be one of those people that need connection to the world. It was great opening your door early in the morning and capturing some photo moments of animals drinking water or just hanging out at the perimeter of the lodge. There are no tv's in the room, you have access to a tv in the lounge area, but we had long days and never really missed not having a tv. I really believe that the staff made the stay wonderful. The rooms were sufficient, a little upgrading would never hurt. The staff cleaned the rooms everyday and they did a good job in our room. The was part of our honeymoon trip and we would not have changed a thing. If you are looking for somewhere stay that will have a welcoming feel, this is a great choice. Siyabonga!!!!!

Very friendly and helpful staff. They were very accommodating. Always a pleasure going back. A bit far from the Game Reserve but all worth the drive.

Keep up the good work guys. And thank you for the delicious dinners. Perfect place for families or large groups. Highly recommmendable.

This lodge has not only a very good position in midst of a game reserve. It has as well the friendliest and most helpful General Manager and staff. You can not expect 5 star service, but it is a homely place and value for money.

Dof Dof and the other staff were exceptionally friendly and very welcoming of our two daughters, aged 7 and 4 years. In fact, they couldnt have been friendlier and more accommodating.
The rooms were very disappointing. They were not clean and need some maintenance and some renovations. Simple things like providing a bath mat were overlooked, even after staying for a couple of days.
The dinners were very average, especially the braai ( I know the other reviews say it was nice), as the meat was overcooked and extremely dry as it was left on the electric warmer after being cooked until it was eaten.
The only real attraction close by was the Hlulwe National Park but there are much closer lodges which would have been more convenient.

We had the same experience. The Bayala game lodge had some good and bad points and in the end made us leave with mixed feelings. The thing that stuck out the most was the friendliness of the staff. The staff was great and we had a lot of laughs with them. The were cheerful and always very helpful and in for a chat.

Unfortunately we caught some bad weather when visiting the lodge so everything looked a little damp and sad. The rooms we're nice, but didn't look clean. The bathroom was a bit rusty and wasn't well maintained. The room was oke, but the roof looked like it was housing some insects which we hoped wouldn't fall on our heads while sleeping. It all just didn't look very clean :(

On of the highlights staying there was the quad safari. We drove off road through their little game reserve, which was great. We saw giraffes standing only 3 meters away, zebra's, a lot of different antelopes (the Nyal's are amazing) and a herd of Wilde beast ran along side of us for a while before cutting us of and crossing the road. A bit scary, but a total adrenaline kick. It's very different than when you with in a 4x4 I can tell you that.

The buffets was oke, as said in another review if the have a braai then you're in luck. The braai was great, the buffet was oke.

All in the experience of the staff and quad driving were great, but the maintenance of the lodges and buffet could be better.

Room Tip: All the lodges are the same as far as I could tell. The site doesn't really provided advantages...

Bayala Lodge to us seemed a mix of good and bad. What could be more delightful than to wake up to seven friendly giraffe, a family of warthogs and the occasional shy Nyala on the lawn ouside your bedroom. The main building is lovely and the staff are competent and friendly. Its situation is convenient for excursions and overseas tour groups make use of this. The bad is that there is no effort made to be eco-friendly.There is no use of solar power and all towels are washed every day. If the lodge is fully booked 120 towels are laundered daily. This seems an extraordinary waste of water and electricity. There should be an option to have your towels washed or not. Lights inside and out are left on almost permanently. There are other lighting options that could be used especially outside.

The manager Dave and the owners went out of there way to make me feel welcome. Like a home away from home. An excellent staff and very nice grounds . I will bring my family back with me.
