Oribi Gorge is a truly spectacular tourist destination, that is often overlooked because it does not get the exposure it deserves. Possibly because most tourists only think of visiting the beaches along the Kwazulu Natal South Coast.
Our family stopped off at the Oribi Gorge Hotel on our way back home recently, and were really impressed with this hidden gem.
The staff at the hotel and especially at The Wild Fig Restaurant, were most pleasant, and we enjoyed a lovely light meal here in the outdoors. When the bill came we were pleasantly surprised at how little we had to fork out.
The most spectacular and breathtaking sites are accessible from the hotel by car, up to a point, from where we hiked further. My youngest son took in these sites on horseback, something he thoroughly enjoyed.
Adrenalin junkies are also catered for by 'The Wild Five', offering abseiling (33 storeys high), a 'Wild Swing', 'Wild Slide', Wild water rafting as well as hiking & bike trails.
I would encourage everyone visiting the lower Kwazulu Natal South Coast, South Africa, to do themselves a huge favour, turn off the N2 and experience the remarkable natural wonder of Oribi Gorge.
