I have eaten at a number of the Maxis restaurant chain, to enjoy comfortable, affordable food. The opening of the new branch ( August 2013) in the newly refurbished Overport City, afforded us an opportunity to compare their presentation of the franchised menu with that offered by branches, such as the one one in La Lucia Mall.
We were disappointed. Ordering the breakfast special of 2 eggs, tomato, a boerewors sausage, toast and chips, and the Affogata drink, what was noticeable was the stinting of servings and obvious niggly cost-savings by management of this particular establishment.
The other branches provide single-serving jam or marmalade containers with the toast; there were none on our plates. A single paper serviette accompanied the 2 sets of knives and forks (one had to ask for a second); the Affogata drink was served in a coffee mug, smaller than the sundae glasses used at other branches, and the serving of the boerewors sausage was decidedly smaller than those offered at other branches
The overall impression left was that management was cutting costs, to the detriment of satisfying customers' expectations, and this, in a franchise chain, precludes one from revisiting or recommending this branch to others.
