“Very relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

Enjoyed just walking and seeing lots of birds everywhere and the monkeys late in the afternoon. Loved the flora. Wonderful scones with cream and jam in the tea room!

“a good way to wile away the hours”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

The gardens were well kept and the birdlife round the pond fascinating. The orchid house was well worth a visit.

“Relaxing gardens - ideal escape from busy lives”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

Great little spot to wonder around and get lost in nature. Nice size gardens that will allow you to cover the entire area in about an hour. Great spot for a piknick or just a walk. The tea garden is run by the old age home and has amazing tea and scones. Great nature spot in the middle of the city.

“Lovely garden, even in Winter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

My wife and I visited the Botanical Garden today on a cloudy/windy Durban morning! The gardens are still green even mid-winter and there was lots to see including a lovely orchid house, many bromoliads and a fern glen. We had a lovely 20 minutes relaxing by the lake where there is a colony of weaver birds and pretty white-faced ducks (with very cute ducklings!). Loads of other birds to see waltzing around including Hadedas (Ibises).
Staff were friendly enough, but a tour would have been really nice (there is only one available once a month, not when we were there) and while we could buy some leaflets (reasonably priced at R10 - less than £1 - for the lot), these were very dated and could really be brought into the 21st century ...
