So very welcoming environment. Staff and management very professional. Food so outstanding and very tasteful. Security and reception staff very friendly. A real South African hotel catering for diversity. Cool place to be and great sea view from first floor. Coming again next year.

I was in Durban for a conference and chose this hotel as I like older style hotels and it was close to the conference centre. The place has a nice old-world atmosphere - although it is looking a bit tired. Bed was comfortable and the room a nice size. The staff who cleaned the rooms were delightful as were the the staff in the dining room. The balcony our the front was a lovely place to have breakfast looking across to the beach. The only problem was that the streets around the hotel were not safe. Colleagues at the conference were mugged on the surrounding streets - at night and in broad daylight. The staff at the hotel were helpful and organised taxis and/or transport by the hotel's driver. It was though an unpleasant feeling to not be able to walk on the streets. I found the staff at Reception less friendly and less helpful than the other staff - and despite booking an airport pick-up that did not eventuate and I had to take an airport bus. Overall - average.

Room Tip: Room at the back was quiet. Rooms at the front would have beach view - but would be noisier as ther...

When we first came across this quaint hotel we were taken abck @ how wonderful this place was. It situated in the heart of Marine Parade.

The breaksfast is excellent and worth every cent spent! I would recommend asking for parking upon arrival as it does get full fairly quickly!

Room Tip: Sea Facing a bit more but worth the amount!

First time to Durban.

Arrival, check in and the room were fine for us with the service and advice by the staff all good. This included ordering taxis and advice on where to go and what to avoid.

The straight answer is this hotel we found fine, however the location!!!

Yes you are on the front overlooking the beach great. Food fine, service fine. But outside the hotel even in the day we felt unsafe and at night we had a taxi everywhere even a few hundred metres up the road.

Pity because we found the staff here very helpful and the hotel offered good food.

But boy the location and surrounding areas, in a word intimidating.

It's a lovely hotel situated on the beachfront ... It can be a bit noisy as you may hear the people on the street walking by as it's a high traffic area ... close to just about everything ... Food was very good especially the alacarte menu .. The one thing that stood out about this hotel while I stayed there, was the staff .. From the front desk ,to Sankele, to all the waitrons. . WOW ... TRUE ASSETS TO THE HOTEL. ..such lovely people ... made my stay all the worthwhile

Authentic and charming but not for those appreciating calm streets and modern AC;)
Excellent staff, nice reception, and good breakfast. However we were let down by the food in the evening.
An amusement park in front of the hotel is a bit noicy afternoons and girls walking the street at night makes you feel a bit sad...
Beachfront is said to be safe and so it felt also during our stay.
