I've stay there 2 nights. The rooms of club level needs some refurbishment. I found them too small. The amenities of club level, instead, are more than excellent !

Their gym is too small for an Hilton hotel.

Like many South African hotels, there is helpful staff at every turn. The rooms were clean, and breakfast generous. Conference facilities were impressive. The hotel, however, lacks character and is not in easy walking distance of good restaurants. The crime situation makes going out at night, particularly to the beachfront, problematic. Prices are reasonable by world standards but on the high side for southern Africa. Pool and fitness room were tiny for a "resort" destination.

My wife and I stayed in the hotel (using Hilton points) for five days (23 July - 28 July 2006). We had a corner room with a wonderful view of the city (and a limited view of the harbor). The amenities were modern, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. Service was excellent and everyone we encountered went out of their way to ensure our comfort. We ate at the lunch buffet one afternoon and it was excellent; despite the relatively steep price by South African standards (about $20) there was plenty from which to choose. While crime is more of a problem in Durban than in the past, the hotel worked proactively to ensure that you received the information necessary to stay as safe as possible. All in all, we had a delightful stay and recommend the hotel wholeheartedly.

I stayed at the Durban Hilton for a week in June 2006 for business. I had a room on the club floor, and it was lovely. Some of the reviews said the rooms were dated, and I don't know if the regular rooms haven't been renovated as recently or something, but my room was very nice. I had a great view over the harbor. The bathroom was big, with a separate tub and shower. Service was very good, and the club lounge was great. It was nice to have a place to meet with colleagues and grab a quick drink, especially as Durban isn't a place where people (well, women anyway) can just go walking around. I also briefly stayed at another hotel in Durban, and the Hilton is far superior. I highly recommend it.
