“Elangeni Feedback”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2012

Good Morning

My family and I stayed at the Elangeni between the 30th March 2012 to 5 April 2012. When we arrived at reception on Friday afternoon the staff were really friendly and welcoming. We had arranged for “interleading” rooms and were pleasantly surprised at the setup of the rooms. Two separate rooms with 1 main door that leads to both – very different from other hotels we have stayed at. And great sea views from the 14th floor.
The staff from the Lingela Restaurant are great as were the porters and hospitality staff.

I point we didn't enjoy was the halaal aspect. ("non halaal" dishes are placed at the separate table)

I also was very surprised at the good quality of the in room dining meals (a bit pricy though).
We also had a few meals at the Jewel of India and the food was really really good.

Overall we had a very relaxing time, and felt taken care of.

Regards

Yogi Moodley

Room Tip: For families the inter leading rooms are really great

A prepared traveler is a well informed one. On the website, this hotel appears well located and well worth the money for a peaceful couple of days. This hotel however does not indicate on its own website that the hotel is currently under construction. So, if you want a peaceful quiet few days, do not book here. It's the principle of the matter that when book a hotel room, you wish to make an informed choice, but they neglect to mention any construction. Then when you check in you're still not informed or given the choice of a room further from the floors under construction. Only when you are in the elevator do you notice a sign indicating contruction from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Believe me, they did not start at 9:00am. Rather it was just after 8:00am. I can go on about not getting ice delivered from room service or finding that your room has been accessed even when you have left the do not disturb sign on the door, but it is the hotels deceptivness that irks me. Stay away

Average hotel, with sloppy service, very commercial catering for large conferences and they forget about the individuals that stay at the hotel.
It is on the sea front with access to the sea, but other than that their is not alot that Durban can offer. When staying at the hotel you need to get Taxi to make your way around the city, agree your price before getting in the cab do not rely on meter.
When we checked out of the Hotel, we were told that we had to wait on our shuttle bus on the street, as we requested if they could inform us of its arrival, they said this was not possible and could not wait to move on to the next customer. I did complain to the manager who stated that this should not have happened and that the staff would inform you of the buses arrival while we waited inside the hotel. But by this point we had had enough of the sloppy service an waited outside to speed up our exit from Durban.

This is the second time staying here. I enjoyed the service and loved the buffet breakfast. Very convenient beachfront location. The hotel appears very popular with tour buses as the are constantly clogging the parking lot. My only issue is that for the money paid, the rooms are only average, and quite small.

The hotel is being renoved from January with a completion date of September 2012. The hotel is obviously noisy near the floors the workers are on. In addition the elevators are being renovated so you may have long waits of up to 20 minutes! We suggest waiting until October when the renovations are finished. We wish we had been informed of the renovations before we booked. We have just booked at the Hemingways in East London and we were told of the renovations - that's the eay to do it - clients don't like noisy and inconvenient surprises! The restaurant, Piatto, still had excellent food and service and the breakfasts were very good so this made up for the rest.

Room Tip: The renovations have started from the top and they are working their way down the floors. The renova...

It seems like a good hotel. Perfect location, friendly personell but when er something is wrong, they blame a company who they outsourced the service! They don't take care of their guests!

For example intenet not working. (when it "works" it very slow and not available on your room) you have to call an other company with your problem! No! I stay in the hotel! The hotel has to deal with it!

Laudry, I gave a bag, you get other peoples shirts back! You miss your own clothes, the problem is by the laundry company! Not the fault of the hotel! No! I gave my laudry to an employee of the hotel! They have to deal with it! I want my clothes back! No sir! When we find them, we will send them to the Netherlands! SURE!

This is the southern sun policy! Be aware! I will put this on many as websites for european travelling organisations! Be aware!!!!!!
