We were driving westward late into the night on I-40 when we decided that Kingman was a better bet than Needles. Our first stop was the Best Western Wayfarer's Inn. They were sold out, and could only recommend an independent hotel down the road. I was not convinced. I guess I should have pulled out my iBook and checked TripAdvisor.com. Next time.

Instead, we drove a few blocks to Best Western Kings Inn & Suites where we picked up a nice non-smoking, king bedded room for under $100. Very clean. Reasonably new. Quiet, despite the proximity of the railroad tracks.

My only complaint was the flakey WiFi. Fortunately, they had an ethernet connection in the room. I whipped out my Apple Airport Express and set up an impromptu network for two in the room and was surfing away at full speed in less than a minute.

“Good staff & Breakfast”

We stopped over in Kingman for a night whilst driving along Route 66.
The staff were friendly and we were quickly checked into our room.
The room was the usual motel style and we found it to be quite comfortable for our short overnight stop.
We ate dinner in a diner just along the street. There is nowhere to walk otherwise - the location of the motel (and many others) is near the Interstate junction so not much else to see. We didn't have time to explore the old town area.
The pool is in the parking lot although we saw several people enjoying a soak at the end of a long day. Breakfast was good, lots of choices.

Kingman is not much of a town. But when you have to drive the California/Arizona deserts, sometimes this is the only place to rest your head. I have now visited this hotel with my husband, once again driving back from Sedona. In fact, I did only Best Western's on this entire trip.

I can find little wrong with this hotel. The new bedding is lovely and in jewel tones quite colorful. The pillows are too mushy, but oh well. There is always a refrigerator and iron and hair dryer and this hotel had DSL which was very important to us. The light was burnt out in the bathroom. And they have no elevator, so if you are disabled you have to tell them you need a ground floor. (There are two floors.) The breakast includes malted waffles, pasties, cereals and boiled eggs.

The staff were perfectly lovely to us, even though we arrived very, very late. (I did let them know we would be late)

I have to say these rooms are truly fresh and do not smell of smoke at all. That is very important to us.

By the way, Kingman still has part of the original Route 66 so there are things to see and do while there.

The Hotel its self is ok - nothing special. yes it has a swimming pool, but inthe parking lot by the road!! Staff were rude and unfriendly, rooms were clean and large. But Kingman itself has to be one of the weirdest places we stopped at on our road trip! Nothing much there, just a huge sprawling mess! Stay here if you have to to break a journey - otherwise drive on by!!

My sister (a non-smoker) and I traveled from GA to CA, staying at 4 star hotels (i.e. Embassy Suites, Hotel Monaco, Loews, Ambassador) across the country with no problems. On our last night we stopeed in Kingman, AZ and this appeared to be the "best" hotel to stay in. We were refused service because they didn't have any smoking rooms and they would not put us in a non-smoking room because I am a smoker. I thought this may be a mistake made by an employee. I called Tom Spears, the manager, only to find out this is his rule. I would never smoke in a non-smoking room and I am appauled that we were refused service. My husband called and made the reservation and we did stay there because there wasn't any other choice. We were told that check out was at noon but at 8:30 an employee "opened" the door and was surprised to find us there because they said the front desk had us checked out. Needless to say I won't be back to a Best Western and word of mouth advertising is extremely powerful.
