“Rip-Off by Holiday Inn Express”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

My husband went online to book a room in Kingman Arizona for the night of November 21, 2012. This was done on September 15, 2012. After we made the reservation my husband had surgery, and then he had complications from the surgery and went back into the hospital. I came down with pneumonia. His incision has become infected, and I have a bacteria rash and both of us are on antibiotics. And if that isn't enough, I have developed Shingles. On top of all of this, in our everyday lives I am in a wheel chair due to Post-Polio Syndrome and my husband is legally blind. We just decided all of this was more than we could cope and we would stay home, so we canceled the reservations on September 25, 2012. This is a 10 day gap, but it was 58 days BEFORE the day we intended to stay at the Holiday Inn Express. I went back over the email reservation and there was nothing to indicate that the $135.69 was no-refundable. I called my credit card company and they said that they had never heard of anything like this, and that they would represent us. BTW if we had reserved the room for a longer period of time, all of the transaction would have been non-refundable.
I wonder how many times will they rent this room over the next 58 days and keep the money when others cancel. What a rip-off! I figure if Holiday Inn is doing this other hotels are too, or will quickly follow suit. Beware!

We spent an overnight in Kingman because my husband had business there. The Holiday Inn express is the perfect place for this kind of stay. On a Wednesday, as Priority Club Members, e had no problem with a very early check-in. A room was clean and ready. The room, while not large, had everything we could need...refrigerator with small freezing compartment, microwave, free WIFI, flat screen TV. Each of the two queen size beds had four pillows with cases marked "soft" or "firm". At 5 p.m. a selection of three wines, along with peanuts and a crunchy mix, were offered in the same room that's used for breakfast. We didn't try it, but a great-looking pool with tables around the edge was visible through glass windows from the lobby.
The next morning breakfast started at 6:30, perfect for my husband's busy schedule. Pancakes, cereal, cheese omelets, bacon, bagels, Danish, toast, English muffins, fruit, juice, yogurt and other breakfast foods were offered, so you could make up a complete hot breakfast or opt for lighter fare.
The staff is particularly accommodating. When my husband realized he needed some materials copied, and could find no place in Kingman to do it, Brianna at the desk immediately offered to do it for him, then called when they were ready. Hot coffee and cookies always are available in the lobby.
We've been loyal to several other chains on business trips, but after our second very pleasant stay at a Holiday Inn Express, we will now spend more of our overnights there.

Room Tip: A top floor room on the side away from Andy Devine Ave. may be quieter.

Great experience, great value. Driving from Grand Canyon to L.A. stopped at this Holiday Inn Express and was not disappointed. Staff on front counter were very youndg and first thought was what is this going to be like. Needn't have worried both girlsk new exactly what they were doing so first impressions dont always count.
Room was very clean and better than expected, swimming pool very good as wa hot tub. Gym was very small but fine. Breakfast in the Great room the following dsay also fine.
Overall a really good Holiday Inn Express nothing to complain about.

This HIE was very easy to find off the I-40. Our stay was quite comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful (Thank you, Unica!) and the room was quiet and clean. Air-condition unit worked very well. The free breakfast was OK. The room rate that we got, although not as low as the other hotel rates in the surrounding area, I still think that we got a reasonable rate. With all those above accolades, why 4 stars, you might ask? Compared to other HIE that I have stayed, this HIE Kingman could upgrade their beds to a more comfortable one.

After driving the whole day on rout 66 it was nice to come to the hotel. Good service at the reception. The room was OK with fridge and working aircondition. We are used to windows with 3 glasses so under the thunderstorm we thought that it is raining inside, but it was'nt. Very nice breakfestroom whit a typical american breakfest. A nice stay.

Although a little older than other HIE, this place was a great place to recharge after a day on the road. The indoor pool was great and the breakfast was the standard fare for HIE. Much better than other places around. It's good to know there is consistency between these places to set your expectations accordingly. We had no problems at all and the staff was great. One made restaurant recommendations for us that was right on the mark. Thanks!

I have to admit that I was spoiled with the newer Holiday Inn Express hotels in Catoosa, OK, and Amarillo, TX, and was a little disappointed to see that this Holiday Inn Express was older and could use some upgrading. But, my disappoint quickly dissipated when I realized that it was a good, solid hotel with clean and comfortable rooms. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms clean and spacious, and the breakfast offered in the morning was great...It was all that I was expecting and needing it to be.

Also, the staff was friendly and accommodating; the location was convenient to the highway and right next to a gas station which was a helpful; and there seemed to be a good mix of eateries around.

My only "issue" would be that the walls seemed to be more thin than normal. I heard a neighbor's alarm going off and the water running when someone used the shower. It didn't bother me as much because the hour wasn't unreasonable; it was time for me to get up anyways.
