We stayed for one night at the Sandton Sun, and have to say that it's one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in. The service, room and food were exceptional. We only stayed one night before catching an evening flight the following day. The hotel offered us the facility of the Executive Lounge to wash and shower in before we departed at 5.30pm. Excellent service.

Stayed at the Sandon Sun & Towers on a business trip. There's another intercontinental across the road which is very confusing as I was dropped off at the other one, only to be told it was on the other side of the road! Checking in was swift and good, was offered an adapter which was excellent, and free internet access - which was pretty fast, I thought. Had dinner in the hotel on the first night which was pretty good and not bad prices either. Hotel gym was very good - new equipment and overlooks the pool, so you can watch the sun set whilst on the treadmill! Breakfast was good - wide variety of choice of food. Room was nice - I had a corner deluxe room. It got quite cold but I had the A/C on, so that helped. Rather dated, so it needs an uplift. The hotel offered everything I'd expect from a 5* but I must say, it was an expensive hotel. Location was excellent - next to Sandton City (shopping centre) and Nelson Mandela Square which has tons of excellent restaurants. I'd probably stay there again if I come back on business.

I stayed here for 3 weeks while in Johannesburg for a business trip. Except for a decent breakfast that was included in our package and an OK room (recentley updated, but fairly dark), I don't have many positive comments for this hotel. Terrible service, unprofessional staff and management, and the hotel cannot control the tempurature in the rooms (according to the manager, it is control by the attached mall and the AC is cut-off completely at 1:00am each night). One of the worst stays I've had in a long time.

Having said that, I don't think it is possible to find a great hotel in Joburg. We stayed at the Park Hyatt for several weeks, and had terribly service there as well (but it is a nicer property).

i made a reservation for 5 rooms via the intercontinntal central reservations centre for premium rooms on the top 3 floors of the hotel .......so we received rooms on the lowest 2 levels available. front desk staff were helpful but had loads of excuses as to why the reservation was mixed up. I arrived at 11 pm to a room with the bed not made up .. pillows without pillow cases lying on the floor, received dressing gown/slippers at 3pm the next day, no welcome fruit etc as an ambassador member. The worst part was the check out when we were charged different rates for the rooms despite having printed confirmations, and even worse was the condescending patronising ?front desk manager who tried to explain that it is common practice for different rates to be charged !!! I was promised a call from the hotel manager - still waiting after almost 2 weeks !!!
I would recommend staying at the Towers next door, or the Michelangelo instead.

Sandton Sun is in an impressive building although individual rooms are nothing special. Internet access is extremely slow and problematic. Rooms are clean and spacious but service is slow. A particular problem is checking in, which takes around 40 minutes in peak hour and requires patience aplenty. Food okay although they can't do a decent coffee. Sometimes I ordered things which simply didn't arrive.

Overall not bad but they need to lift their service. They are also currently undergoing renovations which are very noisy on weekends (and which start around 9am)
