i had made a booking over the internet on a website called mtbeds.co.za for 2 appartments for 2 nights, only to find out when we got there that there were no rooms available for us to stay in.
i would never recommend mtbeds to any traveller. i travelled with my family 6 hours in a car from Botswana, only to be sitting in the hotel lobby arguing with the staff at 20 west and trying to sort out the problem.

We apologize for this incident. Unfortunately the online aggregator failed to link the booking to our hotel booking system which resulted in us not receiving the booking. As were were fully booked for that evening we could not assist. We did offer the guests the opportunity to stay at our sister property, Hydro Executive Apartments located 3 minutes away but they declined. Although this was a systems failure, we still do take responsibility and we sincerely regret this incident.

Beautiful place to stay during a business trip. Well kept, would recommend in a flash. The only drawback was the call after we checked out that a hairdryer was missing (which wasn’t there to start off with) and even after 3 calls to explain that, our credit card was charged with a ridiculous amount to replace it. Nobody checked the room when we checked out, and we were not given a list of what would have been there on arrival.

I am a super indecisive person, and having never been to SA, didn't know where to stay. I booked at another hotel much further away, close to the airport, and changed to 20 West at the last minute due to the rumored traffic. I am so happy that I did!

The rooms are beautiful and the room service is awesome. The rooms are modern and clean, and everything is provided for you (my husband and I stayed in the one bedroom suite). The hotel was quiet and peaceful with great views of the city. The location was great - very close to everything and close to work.

The restaurant was very good, though the breakfast bar did not have many options. But we aren't picky, so we just went to other restaurants with a larger breakfast selection when we had the time.

The front desk was a bit slow, but this is the culture in SA. Very laid back. Just be clear about your needs. We expected new toiletries every day, so we had to make this known to the staff. After we requested it, it was done. We were wonderfully surprised when housekeeping washed all of our laundry each and every day. Makes it nice to travel back home with a suitcase full of clean clothes.

You can't go wrong with this hotel. You get great amenities for an entire suite, and you pay much less than some of the single room suites. And, in terms of internet, the daily price is on the high side - about $25/day, but if you are staying for a longer period, you can buy a bulk package that is much, much less expensive. We paid about $45 for five days. Well worth it!!

Room Tip: Our room faced the car dealerships, but the city view is absolutely amazing!

I stayed in this place for about 3 months (august till mid-november 2011) as my husband had an extended business trip.
the place is lovely, so modern, neat and clean.the staff are very friendly and helpful.
I wouldn't exactly call it a 5-star hotel, it's very different. these are "executive apartments". so don't expect the big luxurious reception etc. think of it as a residential building with a reception!

we had a 1-bedroom apartment suite, the interior decoration is absolutely tasteful, i loved it! everything is simple, modern and high quality. and it really felt like home. the bed was so comfortable and the linen always clean and fresh.

the bathroom is also very nice, separate shower and bath.

there's a large lounge area, with flat-screen LG tv, (there's another one in the bedroom) with cable, along with the guide.

a dinner table for 6, and a fully equipped kitchen, complete with pans, utensils, plates, mugs, glasses (different kinds) place mats, bowls,... really anything you could ever need, and there's 6 of everything (plates, cups, knives, etc.)
microwave, toaster, coffee maker, dish washer, washing machine, dryer, ironing table, iron, and a stunning double door fridge. as if it's not enough, everything is high quality excellent brands.
there's internet, but not free :( and it's not very cheap either!

the laundry service is free, yes (along with ironing), but i have to admit i wasn't very impressed by it (but to be honest, i'm a very picky person) so i ended up doing it myself.
and the cutting knives weren't so sharp, and i hated the cutting board (but again, i'm a picky, cooking fanatic person! ) so it shouldn't really bother many people!

the rooms have nice views, i stayed in 2 different ones, one that had a stunning view of the city, the other had a view of the pool.
the pool is really nice, too cold in the winter, but fantastic in summer. but tends to get a bit noisy around it sometimes.
there's also a gym with a trainer who could help you out, and a restaurant. it's very nice, but it's just been changed, so i didn't try the new one, but i'm sure it'll be just as good.

the location is really good, there are two small malls just 10-minutes walk, and it's completely safe to walk there, i've done it alone many, many times during daytime.

it's also across rivonia road, which is the main street there, so you're close to the gautrain station, which is perfect transportation to and from airport (it also goes to pretoria and other places) as taxis are crazy expensive!! (a ride to the airport would cost no less than R400, while the gautrain costs R105)!!
there's also a huge mall "Sandton City" which is a 10-minute drive.

Should you have any questions, about this place or anything in Joburg, don't hesitate to ask!

Room Tip: i preferred the room with a view of the city.

I am very disappointed with the service - especially for a group booking. To begin with a shuttle service must be arranged for guests and specificially groups. We were told on Friday that there is no such service but then on Sunday by a different front desk attendant that there is a taxi service on stand by. All front desk employees should be aware of the services on offer and try to help guests and anticipate their needs.

Service in the restaurant needs much improvement - especially during a function when people are in a hurry to return to sessions. Rooms are comfy but they to replenish items like towels, toiletries and condimates every morning.

I don't feel this is a 5 star establishment - it seems like a newly opened hotel with lots of teething problems.

I was recommended this property by a friend of mine and decided to give it a try when visiting Johannesburg on a business trip. I was not sure what to expect, as I am used to staying in hotels. Well, to say my expectations were exceeded,is an understatement. Firstly, the location is absolutely perfect. Just around the corner from Rivonia Road and just down the road from the Sandton Gautrain station. I had a hire car though and was pleased to see there was more than enough parking on arrival. I was greeted by friendly staff and made to feel welcome immediately. My one bedroomed apartment was on the 5th floor, and could not believe how modern and chic the decor and interior design was. Apart from the fact that the building is still very new ... I could see that they had spared no expense and bought good quality brands. There is a fully eqipped kitchen with everything you could ever need, from a washing machine and separate dryer to a coffee machine, to a double door freezer fridge with ice maker and of course full cooking facilities including a microwave. There is a large dining table, so could easily entertain while staying there along side a very spacious lounge area with a stunning balcony that enjoyed views of the city for as far as you could see ... and some pretty impressive sunrises too!. The bedroom and bathroom did not disappoint either ... again, high quality linen on the beds and extremely comfortable too. Next to the bed is a mini alarm clock combined with ipod docking station - standard in all rooms!! The bathroom has a separate walk in shower, double basins and one of the biggest baths I have ever seen. There are lovely touches too ... such as a generous gift pack of snack goodies on arrivaland on MOndays, Wednesdays and Fridays - they do your laundry for free!! Never have I come across this before ... and was indeed very welcome for me, as I had just returned from two days in the bush and had many dirty clothes. If you do not feel like cooking yourself, there is a restaurant downstairs open in the evenings (I did not get to try this) but also open for breakfast too ... I used this twice and found the food to be delicious. All in all a great stay and will definitely be back. The whole set up of the apartment did not make me feel like I was on business in a hotel room .... more like I was staying in someone's home!

We stayed at the 20West Apartments for two weeks in April, 2011. I highly recommend the place for short and longer term stay, especially if you’re looking for a place where you can put your feet up and relax for a while. It has all the comforts from home (and more!), and everything is maintained exceptionally well (Justin is a gem!). We stayed in a 2-bedroom unit with my mom, which in reality is a studio and 1-bedroom lock-off, which was perfect and allowed all of us our privacy without giving up on convenience and access. The studio had its own bar fridge, kettle and coffee making utensils (and of course bathroom – no tub, only nice roomy shower). The one-bedroom had a large bathroom with his and her sinks, large soaker tub and walk-in shower. The kitchen was very well equipped, and as we entertained extensively while we were there I can truly speak to the details. Their fridge is full-size with icemaker/water dispenser (the latter used continuously), while the stove was glass top and baked/grilled as required; the washer-dryer were used almost daily, with a full-sized microwave oven and sophisticated coffee maker. They had cleaning services so the apartment was thoroughly cleaned every day, they will even iron your clothes at no additional cost (didn’t make use of it, but available for business people traveling).

The amenities are equally of high standard – they have a heated salt-water lap pool (unfortunately our program was too full and the weather too cold for us to use it, but we did see families with small kids enjoying it). They have a fully equipped fitness room with top-of-the-range equipment of TechnoGym – it was an absolute pleasure to use this (and we did use it quite often). Their new restaurant was just about to open, unfortunately we left before the opening day; from what we could see it looks nice and it will be great to have a lounge and food on-site.

Beds were probably the best we’ve ever slept on – even checked the name to see if we can purchase one at home – soooo comfy!

Location was central – close to malls, shops, restaurants, hospital, easy access to highway; in a high end Northern suburb of Johannesburg. Probably around 30-40 minutes’ drive from the international airport. Parking was free.

Last, but definitely not least, their security was top-notch! This was a prerequisite for us as we are quite savvy travelers and used to the South African environment, but wanted somewhere we could relax and not worry about that at all – they have a very good system and people in place.

All around I will highly recommend the place. The only thing to remember is that you pay extra for wireless Internet access (not much) and it will probably be a tad slower than what you’re used to (for us anyway); other than that I have no negative comments.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor that faces North.
