“Don't Let the Lush Appearance Fool You”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2012

I am traveling through South Africa with a group on business. We're educators but enjoying the comfort provided through a grant to allow us to sleep in good accommodations while we conduct our daily business in the various provinces. This hotel in a posh section of Jo'burg seemed great -- at first. The problem is that they don't know the first thing about service or efficiency, which even mediocre hotels can provide. And the accommodations proved less than sufficient, with some of our party experiencing flooding from the shower, rooms that were not cleaned by nighttime, and the horrible experience of the front desk not knowing how to check out the group. And the Internet router is not strong enough to reach the guest rooms. I had to sit in the lobby to Skype with my wife. Certainly I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone.

Please note that as of 1 January 2013, Moloko Hotel has been taken over by EAH Executive Apartments and Hotels. We are thrilled to be able to now offer the same great service offering that we provide at our other establishments in Sandton, namely 20 West Hotel, Hydro Executive Apartments, Esprit Executive Apartments and Villa Executive Apartments. We look forward to welcoming our guests to the new Moloko Executive Apartments and Hotel.

Internet is a priority to us and has already been overhauled to be of the highest standard with complimentary high speed wireless internet now working in all rooms.

I've stayed at Moloko on couple of occasions; both the times for a couple of days. It's a good boutique hotel, with spacious and artfully decorated rooms. There are 2 problems with all the rooms. 1. The aircon is directed at the head of the bed, something I personally hate. 2. The shower stall though visually stunning does not have a door, so every time you shower, water spreads on bathroom floor outside the shower. The airport pickup is available from the hotel at additional cost. The hotel boasts a full-fledged spa, a small gym and a nice restaurant though the food is nothing to write about.

Room Tip: The inner facing rooms have a nice view of artificial spring and spa.

The Moloko is a medium size boutique hotel, conveniently located in Sandton mostly used by business travelers. Amenities include a nice SPA, a small swimming pool, luscious gardens, trees, ponds and spacious parking. The building has a distinct "like new" feel and is very well maintained. The rooms are spacious, quiet, with big sliding window doors,a small terrace and are nicely appointed with good quality materials, smooth illumination, mini bar and all of the amenities and details well travelled visitors always expect of a hotel of this category. The bed in my room was impeccable and the matress felt new but very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious, extremely clean well lit and included a tub, a separate shower and toilette.Breakfast was included in the rate and it always had a variety of fresh fruits and juices on a well stocked buffet. A few cons that explain why I rated it "very good" only: the staff was friendly and courteous but it seems that they need better coordination especially when the hotel is busy. The internet service is intermittent and it is located in a residential area thus needing a car to get to nearby attractions like Mandela Square or Rosebank, but the hotel offers a complementary transportation service. Overall, I enjoyed staying at this hotel.

We arrived at Strathavon on the Saturday afternoon to warm, welcoming smiles from the staff and we were checked in with minimal fuss and escorted to our rooms. My friend and I had a double room. The room was comfortable and the carpets felt very luxurious under my bare feet. The room had everything that one needed, a flat screen television with satellite tv, plug points, a business centre, wardrobes, airconditioning, an ensuite with bath and shower and a Juliet balcony that looked on to a pond & a beautiful indigenous forest garden.

Rooms and large and very quiet. The hotel is kept in immaculate condition. Staff are very friendly. Breakfast is good. One serious issue we had was having two different drivers getting lost in spite of having a GPS. When waiting to be picked up 4 calls failed to get any clearer picture on where the car was. It took around 6 calls to the driver by a local to get him to our location (only about 20mins from the hotel and not a new area!)

We were lucky enough to get a special to visit this hotel, but despite it being eerily quite probably due to that fact that we were there on a weekend and the hotel is usually used by businessmen, it was a very enjoyable stay. The hotel is located in a very quiet street and is set back in African feeling gardens which are well-kept. It's literally about 5minutes from the centre of busy Sandton, though you'd never feel it. It's got a spa - which we were unable to find the time to use, good business facilities and a buffet breakfast to rival any other 5 star hotel in portions and quality. It was a tad pricey, but to the regular clientele, that's not an issue. My advice, if you're happy with the price, stay there, you'll have a quality stay.

Under new management, we have decreased room pricing from R4000 per night to now being R1810 per night. Corporate rates are also available on request.
