“A fine stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2012

We hosted a business course at this hotel in November 2011. The hotel was really nice, new & modern with funky twists. The staff were on average quite good, the food was alright & the rooms were nice, but not very big. The house keeping lady packed my suitcase for me on my last day without me asking which I found really helpful & amazing!
The only issue we had with the hotel is their system for allocating rooms is a bit dodgey. A couple of our guests were allocated rooms only to discover other people's things already in them...! And then 1 person had another walk in on them...a bit weird!

However, the conferencing facilities are not great. The plenery room, when divided, is not sound proof, so we could hear the other group's videos & discussions which was quite disrupting. The conference centre is also modern but the area you have tea in is cramped as it is the lobby of the centre & you have to share it with the other room. The conference centre staff were very helpful & attentive. They have lovely board rooms with balconies which were great for breakaway rooms at night, but watch the cost of these as they bill you if you use them past 12pm.
over all a good hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms above the pool can be noisy @ night if you are not high up & have your windows open.

Situated just outside the bustle of Sandton, the Park Inn is truly a great hotel. Clean, modern, funky and friendly staff. I stayed in a Standard room on the 7th floor, very spacious and functional. The only drawback of the room was the “hard” pillows, fine for sleeping, but not nice for chilling. The next door construction didn’t bother me at all. The Gautrain station is about a 1km away, but it’s not one of the greatest and safest routes and definitely don’t walk it after sunset! Had an over-all awesome experience staying at the Park Inn!

Room Tip: Even number rooms overlook the Sandton skyline.

You will not go there for holidays. But as business hotel, this is a good value option, good location in an expensive neighbourhood. Modern, functional rooms, comfortable enough. Excellent breakfast and a decent restaurant. Safe environment, access to floors only with room key. The whole design is meant to be trendy. Very subjectively, they go this a bit wrong, but it's modern all right. Good conferencing facilities.

The new Park Inn is situated in the heart of Sandton, a mere five minutes away from the Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square.
As such, the area is full of different hotels.
It is situated directly on Katherine Street, offering a very easy, fast and direct approach from the Pretoria-Joburg freeway.

The building is nice, and has separate wings for conferencnig facilities and rooms.

The hotel lobby is bright, giving you a sense of energy.
The bar is in the lobby area, and this can create a bit of noise, but is manageable.

The breakfast/restaurant area is enclosed by a glass wall, so plenty of natural light.

The outdoor pool is small, but will allow you to relax a bit - However, if you're thinking of swimming, forget about it.

Rooms wise, they are of an acceptable size.
Some people do not like the new, "modern" bathroom design of walk-in showers, surrounded by glass walls. I do, and enjoy it.
As usual, Park Inn provides a shower gel dispenser. Body amenities include only body lotion and the shampoo.
Standard Park Inn/Radisson mattresses and linen. This means of good quality.

The pillows might be uncomfortable for some people, but since I like them more on a hard type, they were perfect for me.

Aircon works flawlessly and silently.
Acceptable selection of TV Channels (provided via DsTV), in addition to the Otrum entertainment system, with video on demand titles available from 170 rand (too expensive in my opinion). Since there are movie channels from DsTV, you will have plenty of entertainment options.

Wi-fi coverage is good.
My room rate included Wi-Fi, and the login page mentioned that the usual fee for internet is "0" (zero) rand. However this can be a temporary glitch, as other guests have mentioned payable internet access in standard rooms.
However, if you are a Club Carlson member (which you can enroll for free at check-in), you will be provided complimentary internet access anyway.

There is a complimentary shuttle to the Sandton City mall, that departs every two hours.
Travel time is under 5 minutes, even in traffic hour.

The food served for breakfast is of excellent quality.
Although the selection of the buffet is smaller than in their more upscale brother Radisson, it is very well complemented and rich in flavour and texture.

I have not dined at the RBG restaurant, but have ordered a Classic Burger from the room service menu. Tasty, and also important - no tray charge.

Now, in regards of the staff... some of them, especially Front Office, are excellent in their jobs.
However, there are a few "bad apples", that can undermine a whole experience.
Although not being a five star property, it can be easy to make a guest feel being treated as a five star guest.
Issues included staff plainly ignoring my presence at bar or when walking around.

Apart from the few "bad apples", the whole experience is very positive, and for the price range will definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: The Odd-numbered rooms are facing the construction of the Volkswagen South Africa HQ. During constr...

Dear Park Inn Brand Ambassador,

We are most humbled by your positive feedback and trust that we have earned a frequent visitor in you. We thank you for affording us the platform to be at your service

We proudly walk the talk and prepare ourselves to provide experiences that will be distinctly unique and unforgettable. It gives me great pleasure to know that you found our dedicated Front Desk Team friendly; as we strive to be hospitable to our guests and pride ourselves on the Yes I Can Service philosophy that we all live by.

Our location is indeed preferred by many as the shopping arenas in and around Sandton are definite draw cards for travelers like yourself. The RBG Restaurant known for its signature Grills guarantees satisfaction; since Our Executive Chef and his Team work tirelessly to ensure that they improve the quality of food served to tantalize your taste buds and to enhance the overall experience.

It is however with absolute regret that the team at the bar which is known for their warm Hospitality failed to give you the desired attention, we nevertheless thank you for highlighting the areas of weakness as it gives us an opportunity to right any wrongs. Excellent Hotels don't believe in excellence – they believe in constant improvement and constant change which promises Effortless Experiences.

We look forward to welcoming you back to our Functional Modern Property, that can deliver today and remain at the forefront in the future.

We promise to ADD COLOUR to your upcoming visit.

Yours in Hospitality,

The hotel is located directly on one of the main roads through Sandton, 1.5 km from the Gautrain station. The hotel is a modern business hotel, with a specific retro-type interior design but not negative in any way. It is ideal for tourists wanting to visit the Nelson Mandela Square Centre for shopping and for those that want to live in one of the safer areas of Johannesburg. From the airport, the easiest and quickest way to get there is to take the train (105 Rand one way plus a one time fee of 10 Rand for the rechargeable gold card). At the station either take a taxi or call the hotel for the complimentary bus. Beware: the train closes at 8.30 pm and then you have to take a taxi from the airport (approx. 450 Rand one way, but do barter).

The members of staff are extremely friendly. After a difficult and late arrival we were made to feel extremely welcome by two very competent ladies on reception: Precious and Sharon. We already felt at home even before we had reached our modern bedroom. The room had everything that we needed and it was very clean and well maintained. The double bed was very comfortable and the shower/bathroom really well designed with lots of space. The whole hotel appeared suitable for disabled people; even the small swimming pool in front of the breakfast/bar area was easily accessible.

The hotel is very safe because you can only get to your own floor using your key card in the lift. In addition to the S. African sockets there are also European style sockets in the bedroom, which is very convenient. We booked the breakfast as part of complete business package (including free Wlan) and it was exceptionally good. There were fresh omelettes, fresh fruit, meats, cheese and a variety of cereals offered.

This well-run hotel is well worth visiting again, as it is a very practical for anyone just arriving in or just about to leave South Africa, who wants a good quality facility that offers good value for money.

The room was clean and had everything you needed, however the toilet was essentially in the room and meant there was very little privacy there! It also meant that when my husband got up to use the bathroom in the night, the light shone right onto the bed waking me up as well! The staff were slightly unhelpful when we were asking for advice about our trip. They did have a shuttle that ran to Nelson Mandela Square which was very useful. Room service was quite nice.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your recent stay with us,

We acknowledge that whilst some people would not prefer the new, "modern" bathroom design of walk-in showers surrounded by glass walls, some simply live by it as it is fast becoming the trend in our Industry which is evolving with change.

It is with absolute regret that the Front Desk Team were perceived to be unhelpful as they are trained to deal with such daily enquiries efficiently. Our Shuttle to the nearby Shopping arena’s marks our promise to you, a property that can deliver an Effortless experience today and remain at the forefront in the future.

We look forward to welcoming you back

This hotel leaves a lot to be desired, and is not conjusive to a relaxing stay. The bar is in the reception area, never a good idea. The corridors are dark and dingy. The lift system is very frustrating, no buttons on the inside, one person to one floor at a time, I got stuck inside for 5 minutes on one occaision. The rooms....horrible.....garish sliding blinds that do not shut out the light, pointless. No bath or bathroom, just cubicles with toilet and leaky shower. No fridge, hard pillows, no space to put your travelling essentials. Cheap but not cheerful. The gym, just a spare bedroom with a few machines thrown in, no proper air conditioning, very difficult to work out comfortably. On a positive note, the location was very good and the room service food we had was excellent. By the way there is a large building site about to kick off on the odd numbered rooms side.
