“Personal Touch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2010

We selected this hotel via Booking.com, because of the very high customer satisfaction rating. It was even better. Beside the material things (very safe location nearby airport, the room, the breakfast) the staff, managers and owner are really customer satisfaction oriented. Asked and unasked advice about excursions, birdlife and route directions.

For our family of five this was so convenient and spacious, so serene and to compliment the beautiful well maintained garden. It was a pleasure to return to our guest lodge after a long day. The breakfast was superb and the location placed overseeing the bird garden was memorable. I recommend this to everyone. The management were very professional and friendly. Keep up the good work

This B&B feels like home. Or even better. It was great. Nice huge rooms. The best breakfast ever.
Big green garden with was great for a relaxing afternoon.
Graham and his wife were so nice. They drove us to the local market, the nearby shopping center etc. The area itself is quit boring especially without a car. But for a few days relaxing before our safari it was perfect.

I flew into Johannesburg, stayed 3 weeks in a couple of different self-catering units, whilst doing a course at a nearby training centre. The management team were extremely helpful in getting me transported back and forth, and were continually seeking ways to improve my experience whilst I was there. The gardens were looking superb and the focus on indigenous plants was rewarded with a fantastic array of birdlife. Of course there were niggles, but these were handled promptly. Site development is however nearing its limits. If the temptation to keep adding can be avoided, this will be a winner for a long time to come, and I'll be a returning again and again.

Rivonia Bed and Breakfast has become our family’s constant “home from home”, with a number of stays in the past 18 months. There is a very good reason why they are consistently rated so highly, and have garnered numerous hospitality awards. On the odd occasion, when we’ve left our booking too late and they’ve been too full to accommodate us, we’ve been forced to stay at other 4-star rated Bed and Breakfast establishments in Rivonia. There was simply no comparison at all, and so we’ve dashed back to Rivonia B n B, the minute they advised us of a cancellation.
Rivonia Bed and Breakfast is more personable that the average hotel, but being a large establishment, offers one the kind of privacy and freedom to easily come and go, that is not possible in a traditional Bed and Breakfast where you’d be living in somebody’s home. They also have a tremendous range of facilities, so whether you’re more tourist or business traveler, your needs are well catered for. They have a range of room types available, and are very accommodating about putting in an extra bed in the parent’s room, for a child, for example. The rooms are fully serviced, and very comfortable. While some rooms have specific self-catering facilities, every room is equipped with a microwave, and with a range of ready meals available at reception, is nice to be able to ‘eat in’ so easily, on those nights when you’re tired and simply couldn’t be bothered to go out again for dinner. A mini-bar and laundry service is also always nice to have available. I had thought such things would have been standard in most 4 start establishments in the area, but it seem not! The bathrooms always have all those little items that are so easily forgotten at home, when you’re traveling. Telephone, TV, internet access in your room (and at reception), tea and coffee making facilities etc are all provided, along with wonderfully warm under-floor heating, for those chilly Joburg evenings and mornings.
As a woman who often stays here with my kids, I also love the fact that the establishment has such great security. Electric perimeter fencing, night watchmen on duty, and panic buttons in your room, all ensure one feels very secure. These are also not standard in some similar establishments, and it’s nice to return later in the evening, without ever feeling anxious over security concerns.
The gardens of the Rivonia Bed and Breakfast are simply beautiful, with unbelievably prolific birdlife, which have been encouraged to take up residence by the owners. With a lovely breakfast deck overlooking the swimming pool, and a veranda situated in front of every room, there are plenty of places to sit and appreciate the gorgeous gardens and birdlife, making for a wonderfully tranquil atmosphere, despite its urban location. Watching the various species of birds feed on seeds and fruit, while enjoying one of Rivonia BnB’s substantial breakfasts of one’s own, certainly isn’t a bad way to start the day!
The location is also very good, with Rivonia centrally situated for business or pleasure. A large range of shops and quality restaurants are within a five minute drive in Rivonia, and it is also quick and easy to reach other large shopping malls, like Fourways Mall or Sandton City. As we normally stay on-route to traveling into or out of the country, we also prefer to stay here, as compared to Sandton or Fourways, for example, as it’s quicker to get onto the highway, and get to the airport, especially if traveling during morning rush hour traffic.
We will continue to stay at Rivonia B n B for two additional reasons. One being that it offers very good value for money, especially when compared to either alternative bed and breakfast establishments, or hotels in the area. The second is the fantastic staff at Rivonia Bed and Breakfast. It’s seems the owners have managed to retain many positive and professional staff members, who are highly motivated. Always seeing the same friendly faces, and receiving an enthusiastic welcome back, is great.
Make bookings early though, as the Rivonia Bed and Breakfast is very popular, and enjoys very high occupancy rates. I gather they have a great deal of repeat business and as a repeat visitor at this establishment myself, I can truly understand why.

I have just spent 15 nights in this realy friendly place. The staff were great - making me feel really at home. The room was really comfortable and I was looked after really well. Before I got my hire car I walked up to the restaurants in Rivonia a couple of evenings - no problem - it felt safe. It was easier with a car - but I think this is true of J'burg in general - there just doesn't seem to be any public transport except those mini-buses that obey no traffic signs. The only signals are the hazard flashers - which mean "I am going to do something you won't believe".
Can definitely recommend Rivonia B&B

After living in South Africa for many years, we emigrated to Australia but return at least three or four times a year. Rivonia B & B has become "our home from home" for myself and my family. The Staff are friendly, caring and efficient and the rooms exceptionally clean and well serviced. The gardens are beautiful and one feels very much out in the country, although the hotel's positioning allows accessibility to Rivonia, Sandton and its surrounds plus various important highways should you need to venture further afield. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to both friends and visitors as I myself intend to stay there for many more trips!
