We stayed 2 nights for a wedding. While the venue is beautiful, and the staff really good, the quality of the rooms is shocking for the price you pay per person.
The first night we stayed was just above the restaurant. At R 600 per person, it was half reasonable as the size of the room was huge, but no aircon, or fan. In this area, you would expect at least a fan. Anyhow, moving on...
The wedding was absolutely beautiful! Night 2 was spent in The Stables. We had an ajoining room with my mom. Each room had a bathroom....but the bathrooms are shocking! I took photos, but would rather not put them up. For the same R600/person, the towel rail was hanging from the wall by 1 screw. The bath, a beautiful victorian looking bath, rocked while being in it... Cant relax in that....
Our bathroom was much bigger, had a shower and a bath, but the "antique" shower mat just made me mad. It was bleach stained, tatty with a corner missing. The towels in these rooms are also alot older or more used than the towels from the main rooms at the restaurant.
I feel that with a little paint and pollyfilla, a huge difference can be made to what could be a very special place to stay. This is not value for money!
I would like to say that the waiter and bar staff at Glen Afric is out of this world! They are friendly, helpful, they entertained us, they were kind to the children and overall made a great impression on all the guests.
The restaurant was good, food nice, esspecially the ostrich fillet.
We would definately go back, because the stay is nice, but i would love to see an improvement in the rooms... Very sad that such a venue is lacking so badly wrt the rooms.
