“Lovely place very welcoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014

We chose this hotel as it is in easy reach of capital park station for Rovos Rail and it exceeded our expectations. Room was spacious and staff could not do enough for us. Very pleasant swimming pool to cool down in and their own driver took us on a tour of the sights of Pretoria which was varied and interesting, culminating in photo opportunities at the Mandela statue, union buildings.
The room was kept very clean and linen and towels changed often, the best thing was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in! The restaurant was very peaceful and well appointed and food very good value . To relax after the long flight from the UK ideal.

Village Ridge is comfortable and peaceful. I had planned to stay only one week while on TDY, but stayed for a full three months. I was lodged in a middle quality room (I think it was called executive room but not suite.) It comprised one room and a large porch with table. Here’s what I liked: The staff is friendly, responsive, always with a quick smile, but not ever intrusive. The unit (Bosch) where I stayed is very quiet, even on the weekends. The gardens are lovely. My porch looked out on flowers and greenery. The vegetarian meals were excellent and tailored to my likes—I enjoyed the food so much that I ordered trays of food to carry out to several parties held elsewhere
. The breakfast was unusual but nutritious and tasty, for example the croissants are not traditionally flakey, but still buttery, light and delicious--and a choice between continental and a hot breakfast. Village Ridge is close to Brooklyn Mall (but not within walking distance after dark). There is ample parking. I would give the hotel a five star except for a few short comings: (1) the gym has been neglected. There is a fairly new bike, a treadmill, a workout station, but they have not been maintained. (2) The internet, with an intricate double password system, generally worked but sometimes my IPAD and laptop could not pick up the signal. Despite these shortcomings, I will return to Village Ridge Guest House next time I am in Pretoria.

Room Tip: The Bosch block seems the most tranquil. Also, the restaurant is vegetarian but if you speak to the...

Was put up here by a client. Recently opened (December 2010). Apparently I was the first guest to use the dip pool. I was in an executive suite. It must have been 60 square meters split equally between the bathroom and bedroom.

The breakfast for some reason is vegan only, although a quick glance at the dinner menu suggests that meat is a feature of the evening meal. Safety wise, no concerns, armed guard at the gates.
