“Nice clean new hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2012 via mobile

Good standard size clean rooms. Nice view from the top levels. Breakfast is good, there is no restaurant but there are plenty in the adjacent mall.
Parking available in the mall also (level 6 gives directly onto hotel lobby).

All rooms have a european/uk/us electrical wall socket which is handy. Internet: first 30Mb is free, then you need to pay.

All in all a good hotel just not very centrally located but in a neighbourhood where there is nothing to see or do.

Check in was quick and easy. Rooms are small but efficient. Bed was superb. Internet is very expensive. View from my room was awesome. Breakfast was simple, Nothing fancy just enough to get you up and going.

Overall the stay was pleasant and great value for money.

Holiday Inn Pretoria Sunnypark is a good property in Pretoria. The rooms are decently sized with excellent views from the upper floors. The hotel is attached to the Sunnypark shopping center which features some nice restaurant and fast food options. Parking is conveniently located in the mall parking deck and has a security guard overnight.

The only complaint was that the staff were slightly clueless about how to process a Priority Club reward night. Wound up wasting about 15 minutes for them to sort everything out, but they comped our parking as a goodwill gesture to make up for this. Very friendly staff also. All in all a good stay.

We stayed here on our first night in South Africa. It was a clean and well maintained hotel. Not very used to large groups, it took a long time before our luggage was sorted. The rooms are clean, have a flat screen tv, a nice good working shower and comfortable beds. The dinner buffet was oke. Not much variety and some of the dishes were a bit cold. The staff however was very friendly, but again not very used to handling large groups as the bill took forever. But hey we're on holiday so it's oke, no stress ;-) And a nice touch was the direct indoor entrance from the hotel to the shopping mall next to it.

In terms of affordability, this hotel ranks relatively highly. It's a high-rise revamped apartment building with small but functional rooms and a very pleasant lobby area. But, its located in the rather seedy inner-city downtown of Pretoria so don't expect to take a walk around the hotel for sight-seeing. The hotel does, though, have access to a modern but less-than-impressive shopping mall with some pleasant chain restaurants and a movie complex. Access is direct from the hotel making it safe and extends the options away from the limited dining options in the hotel. Hotel has fast wireless and offers limited free daily access. The included breakfast was good for an Express-class hotel & the check-in staff efficient and friendly. As a place to rest your head its perfectly suitable and pretty good. Just don't expect anything from the location or the adjacent shopping mall. It does its job..and it does it well under these conditions. It really should get an above-average rating.

The hotel is located in rather insalubrious location so much that we were advised by almost everyone not to venture out on the streets. It is surrounded on two sides by the building sites. There are awkward entry arrangements to the hotel – you need to either ask the guard on the ground floor or swipe your card to get the lift to Reception level before accessing another set of lifts to get to your room.

Still, it is well located within the city with an easy access to all the relevant spots. Parking is on the ground floor – appeared reasonably safe.

Other than that the hotel is modern, bright and airy with efficient reception staff. It has its own access to the small shopping mall located in the same building – there is a large grocery store on the bottom floor.

Contrary to some comments we found room size to be rather comfortable for a couple – perhaps it was just that Room 324. We had a view overlooking the pool.

Breakfast was quite extensive with a good selection of fruit. There were enough seating spaces.

Overall, quite acceptable hotel for a one or two nights’ stay.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the swimming pool were good

This was a good budget option for a one night stay in pretoria. The rooms was very small but had a nice view of downtown and was very clean and functional. Location is fine if you have a car, as you park in the garage of the mall that occupies the first floors of the building. There are a few fast food options there which is convenient if you do not wish to leave the building (front desk advised it is not very safe to walk in the neighborhood). Would recommend for a short stay in Pretoria.
