“High quality for an airport hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2008

Only minutes from the airport and with easy transfers, the Mondior is a good choice if you are only staying for a few hours between flights.
The transfers - which are a little hard to find at the airport (there is no signage, but just ask) only take five minutes to the compound where the hotel is located. It is joined to three other hotels, and a casino and shopping complex. They are also in the midst of building yet another hotel. Staying here you really feel like you are locked in the compound. There is nothing else outside the barbed wire gates and the city is a good 30 minute drive away.
The rooms are clean and modern though you do look out across a car park and casino.
The breakfast here is really great. A huge buffet spread with good fresh food. A real surprise for an airport hotel.
If you are in Johannesburg for more than a few hours I would recommend checking out The Peech Hotel. A much better hotel experience. It is also worth noting that the Intercontinental Hotel is actually located right at the airport, which may be more appealing to some people.

I booked this hotel based on some of the reviews posted here and I wasn't disappointed. We got a very good rate and it was just perfect for a short stay. It had modern, clean rooms (although a bit small); a very decent breakfast buffet; convenient transportation to the airport that was only a few minutes away; and an entertainment/restaurant/ casino complex attached to the hotel.

It was the perfect place to walk around and grab either a light bite in a food court or enjoy a more upscale meal at one of a number of fine restaurants. I have to say I was impressed.

Also, while I did not need 5 star hotel, it was important to find a hotel that was close to the airport, had clean and quiet rooms, and provided safety. The mondior definitely met all of these requirements.

I would definitely recommend it.

We booked this 3-star hotel and weren't expecting anything too fancy. We arrived and couldn't believe how beautiful the place was. The service was outstanding, the room was tidy, very comfortable, gorgeous bathroom... I could go on! Every amenity was there - none of which we expected - even a chocolate on the pillow. Will stay there every time I need to stopover in Johannesburg!

The hotel is in a complex, very close to airport, so idea for stopovers.
We stayed BnB in the 3* and it was fine.
The complex has lots of food outlets of all grades, and it's cheap.
There's a casino area for gamblers, and bars with entertainment some nights.
We were very happy with it, but 2 nights were sufficient.

Thanks to previous reviews on trip advisor we booked this hotel for our stay in Johannesburg. We needed something for our overnight stay before our morning flight out. What a great find this was. The hotel is VERY clean and a super modern flair to it. The rooms are small and we stayed in a superior room. There were 2 twin beds, my husband is 6ft 5in tall and his feet hung over the bed (but this usually is a problem everywhere). The included breakfast was AMAZING and there was such a variety! We flew in at 21:00hr and just caught the last shuttle for the night from the airport. The hotel is VERY close to the airport and will be where we will be staying next time in Johannesburg.

We stayed at The Mondior Concorde for a couple of nights in between flights to and from Vic Falls.

The hotel is quite new and well furnished. They provide a free shuttle bus to and from the airport which runs every 15mins.

The rooms are small but we did expect them to be and its fine for just 1 night stop overs inbetween flights.

There is a flat screen TV in each room which is nice and room service is available 24hrs.

The best feature about staying at The Mondior is that its part of the Emperors Palace Complex so there is lots to do! There is also a huge choice of restaurants in the complex, a casino, shops and interesting things to look at!

The restaurants are really cheap and quite good food and the casino has some really great live shows. We saw "Simply Irresistible" which was fantastic! Cost us about $15 for the both of us and it was a 1hr show of non-stop dancing - just Fabulous! Drinks are REALLY cheap too - we had a cocktail and about 6 beers for $15 AUD!

We also felt really safe in this complex. They screen everyone at each entry point and there are lots of tourists around at all hours of the day so you really feel part of it all.

So overall we enjoyed the hotel and its facilities and found the prices to be really reasonable! I would recommend this hotel to my family and friends.

Stayed at Mondior Concorde overnight while passing through Johannesburg. Convenient to airport with shuttle bus leaving every 20mins. Only problem was on return flight from Nairobi we arrived after midnight and having been assured shuttle would be there it wasn't. A kind stander by lent us his mobile to phone hotel and one was dispatched soon after and by that time there were others also going to hotel. The shuttle pick up point is a walk from airport situated behind the Intercontinental hotel and can be quite isolated making one feel uncomfortable if alone at night!
Hotel room itself was quiet, room clean and served a nice buffet breakfast. Staff on reception helpful - arranged a late checkout for us and a half day tour into Johannesburg and Soweto area visiting Nelson Mandela's house and Hector Peterson Memorial which was interesting.
Was very satisfied with hotel for an overnight stay.
