“Great place to stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2010

We stayed here for 4 days, prior to touring South Africa. It is located near the airport, which makes it great for overnight transfer stops. But as it's outside the city of Johannesburg, its also perfect for longer stays around the Jo'burg area (If you value your safety, you wouldn't want to stay in the city itself!). It's a little remote though, as there is nothing really within walking distance. However, don't be put off by this, as I would definitely stay here again if we came back. Taxis and hire cars are relatively inexpensive.

The lodge is in a great setting, with some adjoining fields containing a small selection of game animals. The owners and staff are also very friendly and really made us feel welcome. They also have details of all the local tours which they will book for you, if you want.

Whilst they serve a good breakfast, they don't provide evening meals. Instead, they have menus for all the local take aways, which they will order for you and have delivered. Having heard about this, we were a little bit dubious before we stayed. However, it worked really well and we had some excellent meals. Every lodge has its own table/bench in front and we really enjoyed our evening meal, whilst watching the sunset with a glass of wine in our hand. There is a dining area/common room you could use instead if you wanted to.

The lodges are also very spacious and comfortable and to me, small family run establishments are usually infinitely better than large characterless chains. However, whilst being a lovely place, don't expect the Ritz!

If we go ever back to Jo'burg we will definitely stay here again.

My wife and I thought this motel was great. For the price it is really good value. The airport pickup and dropoff was prompt and efficient. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were very helpful. Very safe too. If you're overnighting in JNB then this is an excellent choice.

We found it an ideal stopping off point for Jburg. We intended to spend one night but ended up spending an extra night because my wife injured her back. They booked a doctor for us and took us there and back for no charge. They also collected us from the airport and took us back there the next day to collect our car, all for no charge. I found the staff friendly and helpful overall, although the kitchen staff were surly and unfriendly. No particularly enthusiastic about doing anything for you. The breakfast was fine tough. Clean. Nice rural feel for some place so urban.

We were looking for a comfortable reasonable hotel near the airport to stay overnight in before continuing our journey to Cape Town and having had a look at the reviews on tripadvisor this one looked like it would be perfect. It was quite reasonable priced and close to the hotel however unfortunately it was not very comfortable .

The staff were ok . They picked us up from the airport and were polite enough but not terribly helpful asked for a few things such as our TV remote not working and access to their wi-fi .
The rooms are decent sized however the bed wasn’t very inviting or comfortable. Also some one had left our door open before we arrived and it was full of flies. The rooms also didn’t have a telephone so you had to walk all the way back to the reception if you had any requests or questions . The shower is also in the room while the rest of the bathroom is pretty grotty.
Finally there is no food service available apart from some microwave meals and crisps from the vending machine (not great if arriving in the evening) . Breakfast was ok enough although I did hear screaming from the kitchen with someone telling off one of the cleaners/cooks that the place would be shut down by health inspectors if they left it in the state that is was in .
On the plus side it did have some nice wildlife around the place and it is only 10 mins from airport

Altogether quite disappointing especially after reading the positive reviews on here

I flew in from Zambia and had a 6:30 pm flight the next day. Normal checkout time is 11:00 am. However, I was only charged 20 rand (about $2.00) per hour for staying into the afternoon - a great bargain. Free airport pick up and return. Continental breakfast included.

No dining room for lunch or dinner. However, you can order from a take-out menu of about 15 different restaurants. I think the delivery charge was only 20% of the food bill.

Very satisfied with the stay and the cost.

I stayed for one night with my family coming from Namibia and leaving back to Europe, due to a last-minute schedule change. The free transfer from/to JNB is nice. Breakfast was fine. We had dinner delivered and the front desk took care of calling, etc.

Rooms were adequate and clean, nothing more. The swimming pool looked great but with temperatures around 2 C we didn't check it. They have some game in the premises, but returning as we were from Etosha, it failed to impress us.

All in all, a good, cheap option near JNB for a night or two. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
