“Good staff and location but mediocre rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

I have mixed feelings, not sure if I would go back. I found the staff to be very attentive and I appreciated the airport transfers working smoothly. The staff were also quite helpful when my son left something behind, and I easily retrieved it. The location is good, very close to the airport, and the setting is nice. Breakfast is OK.
The rooms are a different story. The shower in our room opened to the living area, which isn't a problem if you don't mind popping out of the shower and having everyone see you naked. However, I have two kids, a boy and girl 13 & 11, and we're a bit more conservative. This created some logistical challenges, as well as the door not working on the bathroom, but we managed. The room was booked by a tour company and it was only for a night.
Also, there are no food options in the area. The night clerk offered to have a restraunt runner bring food in, but there was 2 hours plus lead time and it was already quite late. The second option was being taken to a nearby restaraunt called Destiny, which we accepted. However, the restaraunt was terrible and it took over an hour to get a round of burgers. The burgers were saturated in a disgusting sauce, so we left most of the food there. The cost was 300 Rand, which was ridiculously expensive for the meal.

Room Tip: Eat before you get there!

Great staff (especially Sharon) and grounds at this well-kept property were a very welcome relief from the noise and sinister feel of Jo'burg.
Breakfast is good (they ran out of fruit) and the rooms are very nice.

We were shuttled to a golf resort for dinner, since we didn't have a car, which was very good and surprisingly reasonable in price.

Room Tip: Not especially easy to find so best to get detailed directions. The grounds have a large grassy are...

This accommodation was organised for us but it was very average. The rooms were clean and pretty big in size. No Air Conditioning for such a hot environment but we had a fan in the room, yay! Wi-Fi internet was free but only when it was working; very unreliable and stressful when it would stop half way through what ever you were trying to access. The breakfast was basic but ok. As for the service, I would have to say what service. I needed some laundry washed badly as had been away for over a week before arriving here and they said they offered the facility to have it done when I called them telling them I would be arriving around 2pm but once I got there it was like hell trying to have it washed. The staff were not very helpful and only after nagging them for ages, did it somehow happen. As for room service, there is none. You need to see reception who will give you a take away menu, you order with reception and then you wait while it gets delivered from the city centre. You get over charged for the items, have to wait for nearly 2 hours for the food to arrive and when it does, it is barely warm. I would not recommend this accommodation at all.

Location is favorable for late arrivals at (or early departures from) Jo'burg International Airport. Their Airport Pick up worked excellent, and the young German speaking driver was very helpful as my husband discovered he had lost something important at the airport. The receptionists were also very kind and helpful.
Nice to wake up and see an Ostrich. The spacious rooms are in a long row, they all have windows and sliding doors facing the garden. Our Queensize bed was quite soft. The interior of the rooms is dull and tasteless and would greatly benefit from the work of an interior designer/stylist. The breakfast was quite basic (mind the last step of the stairs when going up!). There is a common living room with a vending machine with some soft drinks.

The quality and tranquility of the Airport Game Lodge was an delightful experience when we recently needed to spend one night near Johannesburg airport en route back to Sydney.

Veronica, the receptionist was amazing - a true gem. The breakfast served was of international standard. The rooms are very large, leading on to balconies that look on to wildlife ahead.

We will happily stay there again in the future.

The staff were great. The room was attractive and the room was comfortable. The shuttle to and from the airport was free. Breakfast was good.
The downs? There are no restaurants nearby.
We were also there in late July and early August, South African winter. Night temperatures were around the freezing mark. There was no central heat in either room in which we stayed. We had one electric space heater. It would not raise the temperature in the room above 14 degrees Celsius. At $130 a night, it was a better value than hotels in Nairobi.
Just go there in another season!
