“stay away !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

we had cofirmed booking at the peermont monidor at emperors palace only to be downgraded to the metcourt suites. on trying to check in there we came across ms zodwa mthambu. she is one of the rudest human beings one can ever come across. on giving her the voucher she made it sound like she was doing me a favor to check me in ( i was the only one at the counter) . when the rest of my group turned up at the front desk after getting our luggage she yelled at me cause i hadnt informed her there were 4 adults, which was clearly stated in the voucher. On providing identification she asked us to BACK AWAY . Coming from the hospitality industry. BACK AWAY ? really ? i was taken aback and when i dint BACK AWAY as asked, she asked me if i dint understand what she just said.
we were given a suite for all four ,as i think no other room was available, surely not out of the kindness of her heart.(nothing impressive its just big) we were in transit in jo'burg and at this point after listening to ms zodwa's verbal bashing any room was fine. on asking for the manager we were told he was on leave . i informed them that this incident would be mentioned on trip advisor all of a sudden the manager was working !! the manager arrived with our suitcases in 2 minutes and apologized for her behavior and were given a voucher for 800 rand( approximately 100$ at the time ) for dinner .the price difference between the monidor and metcourt suites is $100 per room anyway !!
the suite (#3) is located near the kitchen ,theres a common door between the bedroom and a hall or something cause the entire night we heard dishes being stacked and people talking and a loud crashing sound at 4 am . it was horrible ...no sleep for any of us..during checkout the next morning i told the person at the reception about the noise ( he did ask me how my stay was !! ) and all he could say is oh..
i get it sometimes you are stuck with the bad rooms but the lady at the reception was a nightmare...the only positive aspect this hotel has is that its close to the airport but id rather be stuck in traffic than deal with such people and ruin everyones mood and vacation !!!

worst hotel I have ever stayed at hands down! service was disgusting, just plain rude to say the least, and terribly designed hotel, the hotel looks cheep to say the least.

we booked a non smoking room but when we walked in it stunk of smoke so after we had to fight to get another room that smelled a little bit better our door key didn't work so after a rude reception finally gave me a room with a key we were welcomed by a dirty room little very little light. the room must have been designed by a monkey with a crayon.

very large room but tiny bathrooms with terrible lighting.

the room was very hot and when we found the air conditioner it was noisy and it was smelly. the television had a bad selection of channels but we were grateful that it had the airport flights as a channel.

there was no room service menu available in sight so we had to go out to find food which was a inconvenience for us as we were just sleeping over waiting for our flight.

the one positive of this dump is the breakfast which had crumpets, milo and a great many other things. unfortunately the nice breakfast was disrupted by loud music in one of the event centers.

Room Tip: do not stay at this hotel if you want to enjoy your trip!

Good safe location for transit if there are no plans to go downtown Johannesburg. Take free airport shuttle which comes on a regular basis. The pick up is outside the departure area but you have to walk past the Inter-Continental Hotel to see it. Ask for directions from the information desk at the airport. The ride is about 10 mins. The best feature of the hotel is that it is part of larger commercial complex where there is a wide choice of dining options. They are connected internally to the hotel and there is no need to walk outside the hotel to have a meal. Hence safety is not an issue. The rooms are alright but the bed was a bit soft. The breakfast was good and the staff very polite. Connecting rooms are available for those traveling as a family. Little hesitation recommending this hotel to those who only want to stay over near the airport or on transit to Cape Town.

The Metcourt suites are very good, I was dubious after reading some of the reviews on here but the rooms are very clean well maintained and comfortable. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and I have to mention that the cooked breakfast is also very good with options for continental etc. it is also very easy to get to the Emperors Palaace entertainment area from here internally, just follow the signs :)

had to book in this hotel as other 2 hotels emperor palace were fully booked that time, booked for 2 nights interval, big rooms, wooden floor(noisy one you step on it), rooms looks like hospital thing, unpleasant experience, had to call the agent to change my remaining night as I couldn't bear the sleeping quality, no more.

but and the end its depends on personal choice and comfort.

The rooms are very nice, and big! Very clean, with personnel very helpfull, a delicious breakfast with lots of options. Had any trouble there. With a quick transfer to the airport. There you have lots of options of places to eat at the restaurants. A good option to stay if you have a transfer to somewhere else on the next day.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

In late August & early September this year, my wife & I accompanied by a group of friends had occasion to need three separate stays while passing through Johannesburg & given we were not looking for the luxury (or additional cost) of a 5 star property, we chose to stay at Peermont`s Metcourt Suites in the Emperor`s Palace Kempton Park complex. Good choice - no, an excellent choice. This used to be the old World Trade Center many years ago & as such, the guest rooms are much larger than standard rooms. The en-suite bathroom is in two parts - the vanity & basin is in the corridor between the guest dressing room / wardrobes, while the shower & loo are separated by a solid door from the dressing area. Ideal - I can shave while my wife showers etc.

Room amenities are standard for such a quality hotel; coffee & tea making facilities with biscuits; a good sized flat screen TV, hair dryer in the vanity, ample writing paper, automatic wake-up the guest can set & moreover, a reliable front desk wake up service that actually call you at the time you ask to be woken! I don`t know how many hotel stays we`ve had where a wake-up call we placed never happened, or came way early, or way latter than requested. The reception staff are friendly, welcoming & efficient & it was no problem at all for us to leave additional luggage that we didn`t require when we checked out from our first night`s stay en-route to Hwange National park in Zimbabwe & it remained for 4 days until we returned from that safari experience securely locked up. Again we left other luggage that wasn`t required when we traveled on to Uganda & Rwanda - this time for 12 days, & it too was perfectly safe & there when we came back to Metcourt Suites en-route home to Buenos Aires.

Breakfast at Metcourt Suites is a major plus & should cut down any hungry travelers desires. A wide-range of cereals & fruits buffet style, five different choices of juices, yogurts, nuts, prunes, raisins as a starter, then eggs any style on order, with sizzling hot sausages, tomato, a big dish of mushrooms in a to-die-for sauce & for anybody who needs a fix of fried foods, bacon & potato, yep, they have those too.

We have stayed at all four of the Peermont properties in the Emperor`s Palace complex; each has its place with the 5 star D´Oreale, 4 star Mondior Concorde & the 2.5 / 3 star Metcourt, however being rated 3 star the Metcourt Suites, as far as quality, value-for-money & service standards, this has to be (in our opinion) the best choice for the traveler who is staying one night, or as we did, stray an initial first night, then coming back through Johannesburg a second time within a short period of time. The Metcourt Suites team truly go the extra mile, leastwise that was our experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a second floor room - they are a little quieter if you have a window open
