“An excellent place to stay in Johannesburg”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

Graton has been my first choice every time I have to travel to Johannesburg. Tony and Graham are always ready to provide the best service. The atmosphere is so relaxing and friendly that you feel like at home. The rooms are very comfortable, clean with nice bathrooms in suite and very spacious. It is also a great place to do some work either in the living room or outside at the terrace by the swimming pool. Having free and fast Wi-Fi makes a real difference. It's location makes it easy to get to Wits University and many other places in Johannesburg. It is also well located for a good choice of nice restaurants near by. Definitively a place you want to stay!!!

Room Tip: All rooms except one have bathroom in suit.

We ended our three week trip to South Africa with a stay at Graton Guest House the
night before we flew home to the States. We could not have asked for a better place to stay. We booked everything online and Tony greeted us when we drove in as though we were long lost friends. Within a few minutes we were touring his beautiful home with wine glasses and snacks in hand. The rooms were very comfortable and quiet and the bathrooms were great with full amenities. The house is full of beautiful and eclectic art work that was fun to check out.
We were able to park our van in a garage - everything was safe and comfortable. We were near restaurants and shopping areas.

Breakfast the next morning was relaxing and filling. We were able to visit with Graham a bit before he left to take some folks on a tour - I regretted that we didn't have the time to stay longer in Joburg to take advantage of his expertise. I would highly recommend setting up with him to do a tour of the city or Soweto if you are staying there. As Tony brought out breakfast, he asked us what time our flight left and when he discovered that it wasn't until that evening he graciously invited us to keep one of our rooms (our group of six had reserved three) for the entire day and to just relax at their house until we needed to go the airport. He spent time chatting with us about his life in South Africa and volunteered to take us shopping if we were interested. He went above and beyond and was as interesting as he was gracious. His garden and pool area (all within a very private, walled yard) were the perfect place to relax before the long trip home. Pure pleasure!

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 1 which was the largest and had a fantastic bathroom with big tub and separate sho...

We stayed at Graton for 4 days recently, the standard of accommodation, attention to detail, cleanliness and homely atmosphere being the very special. The Graton is decorated in a delightful and tasteful manner and the hosts are highly attentive but without ever being intrusive. Bedrooms are very comfortable, the bathrooms are immaculate and the gardens and pool surrounding are superb, the breakfast is testy and Tony was extremely obliging to our demands. Location is very central in secure surrounds. Highly recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Graton. It is a lovely and very well run establishment. Graham and Tony are delightful and full of information. The rooms and beds are very comfortable and the common spaces, both inside and outside, are great places to relax.

During our recent visit to Johannesburg we stayed at the Graton guesthouse, run by Graham and Tony. The house is nicely decorated with African art and cart and is in a quiet neighborhood. It is also well located, just 5 minutes away from the University and walking distance to cafes and shops. However all our meals were had at Graton and they were delicious. We arrived from Pilanesburg at about 3:00 PM and though they don't usually serve lunch, Graham made us some lovely greek salad and bread, which we were quite touched by. Graham is also an excellent tour guide. He can take you to Pilanesburg or Kruger depending on how much time you have. Given our brief schedule we visited Pilanesburg for two days and had an excellent experience watching the animals for the first time in the wild. Graham was exceptionally patient and excellent at identifying game. All together, we had an excellent time at Graton thanks to its wonderful owners. We strongly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

We travelled to Johannesburg with our adult children. Graton House was perfect. A great location within safe walking distance of cafes and shops. Graham was a wonderful and informative guide while Tony provided us with the most delicious breakfast every morning. The house is warm and comfortable and the gardens are beautifully maintained. We had a lovely sunny room overlooking the front garden and pool. Thanks Tony and Graham for making us feel so welcome and safe. We have no hesitation in recommending your B&B.
