“Nice and functional.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2014

There are not many rooms here but the place is well kept. They have suites with kitchen facilities. For the price, a family can stay and be happy. I love the decoration and the lights of the rooms.

There is a guy called Yannick 'Nick", who works there. He speaks French

Room Tip: There are no telephones in the rooms. So make sure everything in the rooms works right after you che...

The rooms are big and clean and the staff are very helpful. If you include breakfast in your booking it is supplied at a wonderful bakery/cafe two doors down the street, great food even greater pastries. Melville presents the right balance for a visitor that is looking to experience Johannesburg culture outside of the shopping malls.

Room Tip: Away from the road and away from the Lucky Bean, which can be loud until 1am.

A very good place to stay, excellent located in melville. Its at the bottom end of 7th street, which has several lively bars and restaurants. Its not so close that it is noisy at night, but its close enough to walk to any bar in a couple of minutes. Its also very secure, and you're always walking in the light to get there after a night out.
The room was spacious, well furnished and comfortable. The garden balcony was a nice place to chill. Having a fridge was handy to keep beers an wine.
Breakfast at Cafe de la creme across the road was very tasty. The staff both here and in reception were friendly and welcoming.
I stayed here with my girlfriend for a couple of nights and would happily do so again.

Room Tip: I asked to be in one of the garden cottages. This seemed to net me a larger, more remote room.

This guest house is just a very good accomodation, extremely well located. Melville is a really nice place to go out during the evening, and this guest house is located in the center of Melville. The rooms are very nice and very clean. The reception is also extremely friendly. It is a place to go!

If you're going to JHB on a budget - head straight the the Saffron. I loved the facility and I REALLY liked the location. I have now stayed at a few different localities in JHB and I have to say I hate the place. But Melville is like an island of civility and culture in that ocean of strife and I cannot recommend the Saffron enough. If you can't get in there - find somewhere else in Melville!
